That's a nice cliche' and all, but it's still a cliche'. There is some degree of "luck" involved when it comes to evaluating NFL talent. Ted Thompson is a good evaluator of talent, but even he fails often. Ultimately it's likely a matter of semantics. Scouts and General Managers can only do so much. Ultimately, it's up to health and the motivation of the player. Both of those things can change quickly and dramatically.

That move took kojones.

Not only did Favre think he was running the show, but it would also necessitate Ted finding a coaching staff who would be able to develop Aaron. Perhaps you think Sherman/Rosseley were going to do that. I do not think they would have been able to, even if they hadn't had their heads up Favre's keester.

THEN there is the situation with moving on from Bert to Aaron. That took more balls than perhaps any personnell move in NFL history. And this all is just a small part of what Ted has done.

You can say he has "neglected" the ILB position, but the FACT is, we clearly had the players needed to win the SB this past year with Hawk and BJones still on the roster.

Ted is a dude who drafted BOTH Eddie Lacy AND Johnathan Franklin. And as usual, he only gets to keep one of them. If you list just the players who Ted has lost due to injury, you could probably make the playoffs with those players alone. And I'm not counting Harrell, or guys who had an injury history.

Without Rodgers, we don't have a SB under Ted. Without Rodgers we wouldn't have even been close with the team from last year.

If Brett had committed to playing another 2-3 years, rather than announcing his retirement when he did. The team likely would have parted ways with Rodgers without him ever really taking the field.

Without Rodgers, Ted would be just another GM.

The only fact is that Ted Thompson DOES have Aaron Rodgers and has built a perennial contender. He can't be discredited because he drafted an elite quarterback. It's his team and he deserves the good and bad credit that the team gets.

Moreover, the Packers have shown they can still be an effective football team at times when playing with a second string QB (a noodle arm one, at that). Many people slam Aaron Rodgers and call him a "system" QB. Give the Packers another 1st round draft pick or so that takes all the starting reps for a few seasons and who knows what could happen. I think they would still develop an above average QB that operates well in the system. They would also still be in great shape financially and be a consistent organization.

I am not going to walk around and say Ted is more of a GM than he is because he was lucky enough to end up needing a QB when Rodgers fell in the draft, and Favre announcing his retirement before Rodgers rookie deal expired. That Ted is so much more than some other GMs who just haven't had the luck to end up with the right QB falling to him.

No, they likely wouldn't which is exactly the point. SeaHawks might be an exception at this point because the didn't win by offense, and we have yet to see what they do once they have to pay Wilson.

If Rodgers has been picked in the early 20's before getting to us, The packers are probably a completely different team and likely do not have the SB or records they have had over the last few years.
