Yes the Packers have Dom Capers but that doesn't tell what system he's going to be running.

Capers has run both systems.

I'm guessing they're going to say in the 4-3 because the Packers don't have 3 good blocking DL guys (which is needed for a 3-4). Heck they didn't have two this last year.

Also 3-4 means Kampman won't be making plays as often and he's the play maker of the DL and might be defense MVP.

Yeah I know Kampman didn't make the most or the best plays. But he was getting doubled team every play after Jenkins went down. With out Kampman the QB might of had all year to pass the ball instead of the all day they had.

Hybrid is what we should do, mix it up some and confuse the offense.

Hybrid. Ease into it, based on existing personnel.

Ok but they would also have to make sure not to confuse the Packers players (which some of them clearly do get confused sometimes).

What Packers (if any) have played in a 3-4 before?

I'm not sure if any current Packers have played in the 3-4. But proper coaching and some key free agents or draftees can do it for us. I'm sure Brady Poppinga could get the job done as a LB in that system.

4-3 except maybe 3-4 on passing situations. Good thing is a LB or DE for the 3-4 can make a solid contributition in a 4-3.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Along with most on this board, I didn't think Kampman had a place in a 3-4 defense. Too small for DE; too slow for OLB. Well, Kampman is listed at 265 and a quick look over other OLBs in a 3-4 shows that many of the OLBs that line up over the RT, as Kampman would, are in the 260-270 range. That includes Lamar Woodley, Greg Ellis, Matt Roth, Johnson in Baltimore, some guy in SF (don't remeber his name), Willie McGinest, and Mike Vrabel, Adelius Thomas, and others. That group of guys doesn't strike me as a freakishly athletic bunch.

Who knows? Maybe Kampman can pull it off. At this point I'm inclined to trust the judgement of Dom Capers.

Thoughts?

This what Mike McCarthy said about Kampman and the 3-4

(I don't see Kampman as that type of defensive end in a 3-4. Does he need to get bigger?)
He's an outside rusher. Who's to say we're going to play him at the defensive end position? There's two types of 3-4. You look at the old two-gap 3-4, and you look at the 3-4 that Pittsburgh, Baltimore, San Francisco and Dallas, what they're doing with their personnel. I think this is an excellent defense for Aaron, particularly in the base defense, and we'll also utilize Aaron more in the sub-packages.
