dhazer (16-Mar) : Rebuilding has begun once again in Green Bay, The defense starts to gel late last year so Ted Thompson dumps 3 of the starters lol

Seen and heard many utter about the same narrative... Tight Ted.. Tentative Ted.. yada yada yada.

He didn't dump anyone.. the market pushed House out of Green Bay. Jacksonville is nuts putting that much money on a player that can't stay on the field. Williams.. he wanted a 3 years at 32.. can't blame him as this is the last deal of his career (sizable anyway). Ted stuck to the plan of 2.. probably a wise idea.

After all these years of building a competitive roster and challenging every year, sooner or later one would not panic in March. Yet here we are again.. in full out "rebuild" mode type talk. Sorry.. every year a team is going to have to tweak the roster and reload of sorts.. we are entering where Ted does much of his work, draft, UDFA market and an occasional trade or free agent deal.

And this fall, we will be competitive again.

That and saying the defense started to gel then referring to AJ Hawk as a starter when the defense "gelled" after he stopped being the starter is just silly.

Mike McCarthy makes it a point to say every season is a "new team" and I feel the depth of these words fall on deaf ears.

Exactly. Every season EVERY team is going to have some uncertainty about how new players will fill in at new positions. Seahawks, 'Boys, and Pats just took some hits too.

To build off of Steve, Tramon is the only player of significance the Packers lost off of that "gelling" defense. Hawk, House, and especially B. Jones made marginal to insignificant contributions. If Ganja Guion signs, we have essentially the same roster returning that just came within 4 minutes of the Super Bowl. Obviously re-tooling is needed, but it's not like we're the Jags or Bears.

You guys are right, of course, just a little bit of fine tuning, as any good team needs.

Just the same, there is plenty of room for improvement on defense. The "gelling" we saw had a lot to do with the scheming of Dom Capers compensating for personnel deficiencies. The only problem with using Clay Matthews at ILB is we don't have a clone of him at OLB, although Capers damn sure tried with the switching back and forth. And Barrington, while a breath of fresh air from Hawk, was still barely adequate. Now with Tramon Williams and House gone, we at very least need to find a couple of backups, even assuming Hayward and Hyde step up.

So calling it rebuilding ain't correct, but improvement/upgrade, some significant things are needed.

I've pretty much become a mouthpiece for Vic Ketchman at this point. So pretty much anything he says on this matter I agree with.

Also should point out that during the time that the defense "started to gel" (after the NO game) Davon House only played 114 snaps during that period and he didn't play at all on defense in the playoff games.

Ted does have an MO of leaving one position completely bare at times. However I think he'll stock us back up this year. If we don't at minimum come very close next year after pissing the SB away this year, there could very well be a revolt.

I'ts funny though I agree with much of Ketchman's philosophy I just don't care for the way he presents it. He just comes across as a real... Well let me put it this way. Remember the saying "if you can't say anything nice about someone don't say anything at all" Well this is what I have to say about Vic
