The Packers haven't been mentioned with any defensive lineman through free agency, or really any player for that matter I suppose. They used a 3rd round selection on Khyri Thornton last year on the 6' 3" 304 lb defensive tackle from Southern Mississippi. During pre-season there was not a whole lot of positive things being said about him other than he has a "quick twitch". It was also stated that he's very raw and the defensive scheme is all new to him. Bob McGinna said during pre-season that "Thornton hasn't played hard, hasn't gotten off blocks and hasn't bull-rushed or edge-rushed with any proficiency."

Thornton sustained a hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve. When they put him on IR the feeling for me was they were just stashing him for a year to help him get more acclimated with the defense. It will be interesting to see how he does this upcoming training camp and pre-season game.

They have depth and nothing more at this time. I don't particularly have high hopes, but I've been wrong.

They'll have Raji and Guion soon, that will be a start. Hard to know what Thornton's gonna bring. He gets a chance to show up this summer.

How long of a suspension will Guion get though? 4 or 6 games? It is a good question on Thorton because even if we think we may have both Raji and Guion back we will probably be without Guion for a while during the season.

The feeling was that Thorton should be cut based on his performance last year. If so that is a total waste of a 3rd round pick where you hope to at least have a back-up and/or ST player.

I thought the college film of Khyri Thornton looked good, he kept breaking though the lines. But in training camp he looked lost, uncomfortable, and seemed to be playing with no confidence or heart which down right killed him.

If he doesn't figure out the system, get comfortable and play with some more confidence and heart then he's going to be a goner in the next two years. Hopefully he's taken last year / this offseason to figure out the system, get comfortable and get confidence back into his game.

Thornton's problem looked to be a mental one... looked kinda depressed too in all of that.
