I know Pro Football Focus is not the be all end all, but they rate Crosby 42nd and Masthay 35th. Is it time to look at drafting those two positions instead of always looking for an UFA to compete? There HAS to be some kid worth a 5th to 7th rounder at least. I'd love to see us pick someone up so we can just forget about those two critical spots on the roster for a few years.

How can they be 42nd and 35th in a 32 team league? Behind non-roster players? That seems a little bit ludicrous.

I say bring in some FA competition, but almost certainly go with the current guys unless they are completely out-classed by somebody brought in. Crosby was decent last season; Masthay had an off year, but I'd expect him to snap back. Neither should be over the hill age-wise.

Masthay was awful last year. He seems to have regressed. I wouldn't mind looking at punter competition this year.

Zero, do they adjust for blocked kicks? If they do, are some coded as a mistake by the kicker (i.e. a low drive) while others are coded as a mistake by the protection team (i.e. someone comes free to block the kick)? Do they have a breakout of kickers in weather vs. in domes?

Crosby's numbers weren't anything special last year but he seemed to hit all of our most important kicks. He was lights out in the NFC Championship game in conditions that were not friendly to kickers. He is 30 so we may have to start looking for a replacement in the not too distant future anyway but I wouldn't be concerned going into the season with him as the default kicker.

I'm not about to dump a kicker who is fine making his FGs over some kickoffs when most go through the end zone anyways.

Thanks for explaining why that ratings were so wrong people, I knew they weren't as bad as those ratings.

I was thinking they probably hurt Crosby because some of kicks were blocked (after the OL in front of them let the guy through...) the ST OL was horrible for parts of this year and that's no fault of the kickers.

Masthay got rusty because he sat on the bench more than any other punter in the game... isn't that a good problem in some ways? If they brought in another punter wouldn't they most likely get rusty sitting on the bench that much?

I rather have down punter numbers than down Packers offensive numbers any time
