I haven't heard much direct news about Tramon Williams, but one fragment just came across that could help the Packers indirectly. The Saints signed Brandon Browner. That's the team most talked about as Tramon's likely destination - being from Louisiana and all. I doubt the Saints would sign both Browner and Williams.

Have the insiders reported on whether Ted offered something to Tramon to come back? I don't recall a number floating around of a Packer offer.

Jason Wilde said yesterday on radio that the Packers offered $9 million/yr to Revis. If the Packers view Revis as a $9 million/yr player, I wonder how much they'd top out at for Tramon.

Certainly Tramon isn't the same player as Revis, but still in the top half of starting CBs. I think they'll eventually improve their offer to get Tramon back.

9 million offer for Revis? Now, THAT is the Ted Thompson I love. LOL.

Tramon's cap hit last year was 9.5 mil.

We paid 9.5 million for Tramon Williams last year. Think about that. Amazing. Not to mention the money we wasted on Hawk and Jones, too.

I don't want Tramon back, period. I want to see more of Casey Hayward.

My only issue is depth: Hayward missed some time being hurt last year too, and no way in hell do I trust Demtri Goodson as the dime back. If we had someone like Jumal Rolle, I'd be happy to show Tramon the door period. It's just that depth we have gives me pause. You could upgrade at CB in the draft, I suppose, but I'd prefer Tramon (with his work ethic and known ability to diagnose) over a rookie CB.

I just read on the "Tweeter" bar on the right side of the page, from Pro Football Focus, that there is currently no CB on an NFL roster over the age of 31. Tramon is 32. Wow; maybe this market really won't require the Packers to improve their $8 million / 2 year offer. I wouldn't really be upset if Tramon is not resigned, but don't mind the veteran presence if he is back.

Not only he is one of my favorite players on the roster, but I think Hayward and Hyde are much better suited to cover slot receivers, which leaves an open spot on the outside. Not signing him means Ted Thompson will probably have to spend a high pick on a CB which could be used on LB/DL/TE instead. And then, you still have a rookie starting instead of a proven veteran.

As Steve noted elsewhere...Tramon's speed was never his long suit and at his age what is it going to be now? He's not a very powerful tackler and he just exudes soft on the field. I realize he has played with injuries and I respect that but he's not a physical presence.

Too bad he has no safety skill to him. He could be like a Eugene Robinson for us with his experience and command of things.

Time to move on from him. I, too, lament Jumal Rolle's departure. What an error it appeared to be keeping Goodson (the draft pick) over Rolle. We shall see what a gaffe that may have been.

Some players just seem to play faster than their timed speed; Tramon Williams has been like that. Ted Thompson is playing Russian roulette - again - in terms of losing him, hoping he doesn't get what he wants elsewhere, and that strategy just might work. I, for one, don't like that way of doing things. Casey Hayward has been excellent at times, and his 40 time is better than Williams. I don't trust his hamstring, though, and he is unproven as a cover corner against the top receivers in the league. Unless my eyes deceived me, toward the end of the season, Tramon, not Shields, was the guy covering the top gun of the other team - and doing a generally decent job of it.

Each time I get on the computer or tune into ESPN, I'm hoping to read that the Packers retained Tramon Williams. He has absolutely NOT been a long term waste like Hawk and B. Jones - far from it.

Zero2Cool (21h) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
