GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The four-year, $40 million contract Randall Cobb signed to stay with the Green Bay Packers contained a $13 million signing bonus.

That was the only guaranteed money in the deal, however, there is also a $3.5 million roster bonus due on the third day of the league year in 2016.

The salary-cap charges increase in each year of the contract.

Here's a full breakdown:

2015
Cash value: $15.1 million
Salary-cap charge: $5.35 million
Signing bonus: $13 million
Roster bonus: Up to $500,000 ($31,250 per game active)
Workout bonus: $400,000
Base salary: $1.

That's how you sign a guy to a 40mil contract!

Who here doesn't see a restructure after 2 years?

Ted Thompson proves once again he is the best at what he does.

As expected, lower cap charge initially will be paid up in subsequent years (namely years 3 and 4), but hard to think Cobb will not live up to the cap charge given his age and (assuming) continued production.

Interesting that $2 million of the deal is tied to game day bonuses earned through being active on gameday. Not sure if that is common, but it seems Packers got at least some minimal protection there.

Seems like a reasonable deal for both sides. Can't complain.

I don't love back ending contracts so much. If the cap keeps rising - then things sort of work themselves out, otherwise it feels like a franchise tag to me. You're just kicking the can down the curb a year or two if you still need to rework things mid contract.

It does still seem good for Randall, though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he gets all of the sign. bonus now so he's making a good chunk of change this year.

I don't like back-loaded contracts, either, but I can live with Cobb's. In addition to the cap continuing to grow, you have Peppers ridiculous cap charge ($12+ million) coming off the books after year 2, so it's easier to absorb Cobb's increase. It also sounds like Bulaga's contract doesn't have those ridiculous cap charge increases in later years, so that makes it easier too.

Not much separates Cobb and Nelson. Frankly, I believe Cobb is more valuable to the offense. He can do so much more. He's also improving. People don't realize how great of a route runner he's become. His route running has improved night and day since he first entered the league. As long as he stays healthy and productive, I suspect he'll receive all of this money.
