Considering his age and the way he's used in the offense, $9 million will seem like a bargain in a few years. He'll get a contract that looks hefty but will be cap friendly with how it's structured+if signed to a four or five year deal will probably see another cap increase by that point.

Cobb is a known talent that AR knows. It can take years for that kind of ability between a QB and WR.
Give Cobb the 9mill.
He's worth it and we need him.

Which is why I think we should also consider a draft or FA improvement of our TE situation. R. Rodgers has shown himself to be pretty decent, but our TE situation was not keeping the other teams defensive coordinators up at night I can assure you.

Damn. Takes all the suspense out of off season.

Nt,ILB, and TE are probably the 3 positions high on The Packers list.
Gonna have to wait another couple of weeks before we all can see what direction they are going.
We all know Ted likes to throw out a whole lot of misinformation this time of the year.

If position of need is damn close to grade/value when you pick, then go for need. I think the Packers did that with HaHa. Otherwise, take the best damn player you can get your hands on.

Somehow my "Applaud" function ain't working; Otherwise I'd have applauded several posts in here.

I too think the asking price is fairly reasonable. When Jennings was asking the equivalent of this or more, and when James Jones wanted a mid to high WR range salary, I was with the crowd who said no, let 'em walk. Cobb, however, has more uniqueness, not to mention being younger. A year or so ago, I was not in favor of keeping Cobb long term, as he seemed fragile. But since then, he looks stronger - at least seems to have bulked up - without losing any of his speed and elusiveness.

What Ted needs to do - not just with Cobb, but in a lot of cases - is to make more use of creative financing (see the Z2C post in this thread) - back loading things. In the case of Cobb, though, I would not be afraid to go more than just 5 or 6 years, as barring serious injury, he should still be in his prime at age 29 or 30 - maybe something like 8 years for $72 million with a $12 million bonus, then $3 million the first year and $5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 million. That would be $15 million guaranteed, and with not too bad a cap hit. If he's still going strong at 32, restructure him for the last year or two and beyond; If not, cut him.

I just can't see them letting a talent like Cobb leave. They let James Jones and Jennings walk, but how many decent WR's can you let go before your well finally runs dry? And who knows how many good seasons Rodgers has left? They let a great opportunity slip by this past season, and pretty soon those chances will also run out.
Right now, I don't see another HOF QB waiting in the wings to replace Rodgers when he finally calls it quits.
The time is NOW. Get all your ducks in a row, and grab the brass ring.
