So, please explain to me, WHO exactly turned the word THUG into a racial slur? And what other words in the future will also be labeled that way?
If I call a black person a "cracker", will that make me a racist?
Are we supposed to take any word that describes a horrible act and just throw it out, because someone's feelings might be hurt? I mean, I understand WHY the "N" word shouldn't be used, as it has a history that speaks for itself. But THUG???
Should the word "punk" be thrown out next, because some people think it only pertains to black people?

Political correctness is making it impossible to talk at all, for fear of offending some weak person's feelings.

If thug bothers some so much, they need to get a backbone.
Troy constantly labels anyone that disagrees with his opinions as a right wing nut case.
Does he feel it's ok, because most of us "rightys" are white?
Does that make it OK to slander us, because we arn't the color he prefers not to insult?

I try to make points without name calling, but some think they are so righteous that they can throw out civility because THEIR opinion makes them SOOOO much better then those they rail on.
It's ok to stand up for yourself, if the point you are trying to make is actually valid. No matter WHAT color your skin is.

I hope that pedastal some put themselves on doesn't make the fall from it fatal.

Troy, do you know where the word "thug" comes from? It had NOTHINH to do with the color of someone's skin. You can try to make it that way today, but that doesn't make it so.
THUGEES I believe is where it comes from, and it was a group of people that did horrible acts. Not anything to do with color.

You all suffer from a condition called white male's burden. Any time a minority is tired of taking shit and stands up for themselves, you guys are appalled. Every one of you is a cakeating pussy. What bothers me is that you can't admit it. I find great amusement in conversations, so yes, I guess I am a troll because getting all of you to protect your bigotry and easy lives is fun for me.

WPR, last year when Richard Sherman went off with extreme passion, White conservative America was not using thug to call Sherman a thief, they were calling him the N word. All of you can take any bull shit tangent argument and shove it up your candy asses.

Back to the topic: The idea of associating thug as a racist term assumes intent on the user with no obvious proof. How is this any less offensive than accusing someone of being a pedophile or a potential rapist? Further, any word can be associated in the same way. Suh's actions were clearly those of a Canadian and anyone who isn't blind can see that.

First of all, as was mentioned, you invoked Rudyard Kipling. Do you even have a clue as to what was meant by "white man's burden"? It was the "liberalism" of his day, and indeed, it is EXACTLY the variety of racism I have accused YOU and modern liberals of: portraying blacks as not having the ability to survive and thrive without your welfare and programs to slant the playing field in their favor.

Second question: do you even know or have contact with any black people? You mentioned "ghettos", have you been to any in let's say the last 5 or 10 years?

Third, are you familiar with David Clarke - the recently re-elected sheriff of Milwaukee County? If so, what do you think of him. If not, check him out and say what you think of him - not that you ever would hahahaha.

You persist in equating the T word with the N word - which clearly is a blatantly racist point of view. HOW could you possibly see defining thugs as black people as NOT racist?

Actually Troy has a point here.
I worked in a maximum security prison for 25 years so I have a little experience with this issue.

The prison population over those years hovered right around 70% black.
It was very common for black prisoners to call each other "nigger" or "thug" even back then and that was accepted by everyone in there.
However if one of us "crackers" or "pink ass bitches" uttered either word the grievances would be flying, possibly being investigated as using racial slurs.
So there is a racial history with the word "thug", just that most people who have not spent much time around a black community wouldn't relate it as such.

So if we assume for a minute that what Dakota is saying true then what we have become is a nation that will allow a group of people to change what is deemed offensive at their will. Its as if we have a group of people who are so desperate to be offended so they can justify their behavior as a reaction to racism that when one offensive word used against them is very effectively removed from society (we can't even write or say the word nigger, we have to say "the N-Word) they have to come up with another one. Its not a race thing its a cultural thing and even a sub cultural thing at that. The only people who should be offended by being called thugs are thugs and then they shouldn't be offended because that is what they are. Its no different than calling rapists rapists or child molesters child molesters. We don't call people pedophiles pedophiles because of the color of their skin we call them pedophiles because the have sex with children.

If I am surrounded by a half a dozen scary looking black men, or white men or Hispanic men or Asian men or even a mixed race group of tough looking women who want to kill me and steal my money I'm probably not going to call them thugs to their faces but its not because I am afraid of offending them because of their race its because they are thugs and they will probably kill me and steal my money if I do. That is what thugs do.

I don't think there are many people of any race calling anyone who is an upstanding productive member of society a thug. Why not? Because they are not thugs. Hell, they probably don't even have to be all that upstanding or productive. In that case we may call them something else but it probably won't be a thug. This is because the word thug is not a racist word. Regardless of its origin it is a word that is used to describe a particular type of person, who behaves in a particular way and until now it has had a fairly specific meaning. I do think that it may have become an overused word and as such has lost a little of its meaning. Perhaps that is why this particular group has latched onto it as its new offensive term. It is easier to convince people that it is being used in a racist manner because the true definition has been clouded by over use. If this word becomes the new "nigger" its because the thugs have decided to make it so and we have allowed them to make it so out of fear of being labeled a racist.

If someone called me a thug, that would bother me. I don't think I'm a thug.

But if I were a thug, why should it bother me to be called what I am.

And if I think someone else is a thug -- N. Suh, for an example, or Donald Rumsfeld or Tweety Bird -- why should they be bothered? Because they think I'm a racist who thinks all black men or all white Republicans or all bird brains are thugs because of the group they belong to? Or because I'm calling them as an individual something they are not?

Race is, and it always has been, a human invention and a human conceptualization.

ISTM, and has for a long time now, that there's nothing wrong with taking someone's use of a derogatory term personal when it is referring to you as an individual. Thug is a derogatory term. If you (the individual you) think you aren't a thug, and I call you one, feel free to take offense. BUt for heaven's sake don't take offense because I've offended your race or your gender or your age group or any of those other groups you think you belong to.

Because quite frankly, I don't give a flying fuck or a rolling donut what group you define yourself as. I think you are a thug, Mister, because you -- you the fucking asshole individual that you are -- are a thug. I'm not looking at the color of your skin or what's in your pants. I'm labelling you because I've seen you do something thuggish or because I believe what others have told me about your individually thuggish behavior.

And frankly, if you decide that I have offended you by labelling you based on a small sample of your behavior or on hearsay evidence that I the individual have relied on? Then make it personal to me. Not because I'm a member of a group. But because you think I, Wade, the single individual, am an asshole and a jerk.

The problem with this "political redefinition of words" bullshit is not that this group is being racially profiled or that this other group is being labelled racist. The problem is that it substitutes group offense for individual offense. The problem is that we are all hiding behind groups, when what we should be concentrating on whether Suh did something bad or whether Wade said something inaccurate about an individual.

You want to take something that I said to you personal? Fine. Be my guest. You don't want to personally associate with me when I say the wrong thing about you or some other individual. Fine. Do that, too. And I'll do the same with what you say to me and about others. And we'll both be better off.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
