Maybe we should just sign a proven player in free agency and go into the season without question marks at linebacker for a change? The Peppers thing worked out pretty well. But that would mean Uncle Ted would have to change his vacation plans and actually be around 1265 Lombardi Avenue the first week.

There weren't very many proven players available that weren't like 37 years old. Most of the better FA ILB have been guys like Brad Jones who had a season with somewhat limited snaps or only stared 7-8 games but looked pretty good in them.

They haven't really sucked at drafting linebackers so much as they really just haven't committed to it. They highest they've selected one was Terrell Manning in the 5th round who sucked but was still just a 5th rounder. Getting guys like Barrington and Bishop in the 7th and 6th round were steals. Bradford didn't look so good in preseason but that was at a different position and none of us has really ever seen him play ILB so we don't really know what he is at this point. It will be interesting to see what kind of player we can get at that position if we commit an early pick to one though.

As much as love the clawless cat fight between Uffdalever and Uncle Buck, can we transition the Hawk talk to a more constructive subject of when are we ever going to draft the next Patrick Willis? The Packers have really sucked at drafting linebackers, which is ironic playing a linebacker defense. Maybe it is more sad than ironic.

Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State is the only ILB projected as a 1st round pick.

He is projected to go high teens , low 20's

Since The Packers are usually picking 25 and beyond, Ted would probably have to move up to get him.

After McKinney these 2 guys are the next highest rated at this point, they will probably go late 2nd or early 3rd round.

There are some options this year.

Denzel Perryman Sr Miami (Fla.) ILB
Eric Kendricks rSr UCLA ILB

I still say, give Barrington the rest of this year and TC next year and he will be ready to take over Hawks ILB position.

That still leaves the other, CMIII, will probably be moved back to the outside, unless the ILB position is not adressed this next off season.

Maybe they can convert a S. Someone like Jalen Mills from LSU. No wait. He has issues with an assault charge. He isn't Packer People. [grin1]

Actually Michigan St Kurtis Drummond is a little bigger so if anyone would switch he might be better suited. His drawback is he doesn't play in the NFL Jr division called the SEC.

I think most people realize that Ted Thompson is just going to go the UDFA route to fix our ILB issues. Actually, Joe Thomas from our PS looked like he might be a player in pre-season. Liked what I saw there.

If Ted Thompson managed to find 2 starting CB's (unheard of) via the UDFA route, you can bet he'll go to that well over and over again on his LB's. How many UDFA's has he trotted out opposite Clay before he finally figured out he might need a little better? Same goes for safety....how many MD Jennings did we need to suffer before fixing that position? Replacing AJ Hawk is nowhere near like trying to replace a real impact player like Collins. So, if he tried replacing a true impact guy with a guy like MD Jennings, I don't think there's anyway he's not going to attempt to upgrade a middling player like Hawk with a UDFA.

The Niners are going to go through some kind of rebuild once they let Harbaugh go. Perhaps, their new regime would be willing to deal one of their oft injured LB's like Willis or Bowman.

Sadly, it'll be a Joe Thomas and Barrington and who knows what kind of UDFA from who knows where as our future. OR...some guy drafted late that doesn't make a whole lot of sense and is some kind of conversion project.

Welcome to the Packers offseason. As imaginative as Mike McCarthy on 2nd and 10 with is runs up the middle.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

If we're blaming an injury for Hawk's poor play, does that mean he's been hurt for the past 4 seasons? Just wondering.

I thought this was an A.J.Hawk thread. He has given his best, but is just slowing down. I say try to trade him for Draft picks. I my opinion, The first 2015 Draft pick should be used to get the best Linebacker available.

Anyone know a good 6'4" to 6'5" , 250 lb Linebacker that will be a good pick. Must be strong, quick, and very smart. A list of 2 or 3 players could fuel a good discussion.
