Seems like strange reasoning to me. From what I've seen, people get rather annoyed if they have to work ridiculously hard, while co-workers just phone it in. Projecting that to your situation, would only make me more annoyed, really.

Thing is, I don't want four families who are deservedly on welfare, cut, because one douche takes advantage of the system. I'm all for motivation and (re)education, but preferably in a humane way.

Our government, right now, is forcing people on welfare, who have been out of a job for longer than a certain period of time, to work for free. What they've managed to do so far is get more people on welfare, because the free workforce is taking up jobs that normally would've been filled by a regular employee. Nice on paper, but a poor idea.

I've worked "ridiculously hard" while co-workers phoned it in and I dealt with it. When it came time for reviews, I got a raise, they did not. When it came time for promotions, I was considered and offered, they were not. I don't worry about how hard the guy next to me is working, but rather focus on working to my best. Some of the plants I worked in I had co-workers tell me to stop working so hard because it was making them look bad and I was setting the bench marks to high for them. Unfortunately in my early 20's some of those jobs were with people who came in to work hung over, or still drunk. Those are the people I have little remorse for. If you're on drugs, a drinker, then those people need the necessary help to get them off that track.

I don't know, I guess trying to make this point to those who are too worried about labeling and putting people in boxes is just not something worth the time.

Please give me details on how exactly your views differ at all from the libreral democrats?
Funny thing is, the Clintons, the Obamas, and the list could go on and on, are filthy rich. Yes, filthy rich liberals.
Why arn't they handing out THEIR money to the less fortunate?
Yet you keep bringing up "evil rich republicans" as if money/rich is automatically republicans and evil.
What about all the filthy rich hollywood Libs?
I know....ignore them. They won't help you try to make your attempted points.
When I had money, I tried to help people.
I'm not stating it for a pat on the back, just to show you conservatives have hearts too.it might not fit your preconceived idea, but it's true.

And yet they keep flooding over the boarder like a tsunami. I guess half wages and no bennys in the US is a hell of a lot better than where they came from. Huh. The US for all its faults isn't as horrible as some make it out to be.

Today, I stopped caring about my fellow man. I stopped caring about my community, my neighbors, and those I serve.

I stopped caring today because a once noble profession has become despised, hated, distrusted, and mostly unwanted.

I stopped caring today because parents refuse to teach their kids right from wrong and blame us when they are caught breaking the law. I stopped caring today because parents tell their little kids to be good or “the police will take you away” embedding a fear from year-one. Moms hate us in their schools because we frighten them and remind them of the evil that lurks in the world. They would rather we stay unseen, but close by if needed, but readily available to “fix their kid”.

I stopped caring today because we work to keep our streets safe from mayhem in the form of reckless, drunk, high, or speeding drivers, only to be hated for it, yet hated even more because we didn't catch the drunk before he killed someone they may know. Never less, we are just another tool used by government to generate "revenue".

I stopped caring today because Liberals hate the police as we carry guns, scare kids, and take away their drugs. We always kill innocent people with unjust violence. We are called bullies for using a taser during a fight, but are condemned further for not first tasing the guy who pulls a gun on us. And if we do have to shoot, we are asked “why didn’t you just shoot the gun out of their hand?” And when one of us is killed by the countless attacks that do happen (but are rarely reported in the mainstream media) the haters say, "Its just part of the job".

I stopped caring today because Conservatives hate us as we are “the Government”. We try to take away their guns, freedoms, and liberty at every turn. We represent a “Police State” where “jackbooted-badge wearing thugs” randomly attack innocent people without cause or concern for constitutional rights. We are Waco, Ruby Ridge, and Rodney King all rolled into one lone police officer stopping to help change an old lady's tire.

I stopped caring today as no one wants us around, but instantly demands answers, results, arrests, when a crime takes place. If a crime isn't solved within the allocated 60 minutes it takes CSI on television, we are inept, incompetent, or covering something up. If we do get “lucky” it was just that and everyone with a Facebook account can post wonderful comments of how “they” would solve the case and how “we” and not nearly as clever.

I stopped caring today because a video of a cop six states away, from a department that you never heard of, screws up and forgets his oath of honor, thus firing up an internet lynch-mob of cop haters because “we all do the same things” even though 99% of us work twice as hard not to end up in the news and to still be “the good guys”. We are "militarized" because we wear body armor and kevlar helmets when shots are fired or rocks thrown at us and carry scary looking rifles even though everyone knows that they are easier to shoot and are more accurate than a handgun or a shotgun.

I stopped caring today because the culture of today’s instantly connected youth is only there to take and never give back. To never accept responsibility for ones actions, but to blame everyone else instead of themselves. To ask “what is in it for me?” versus “what can I do for you?” To idolize gangsters, thugs, sexual promiscuous behavoir, and criminals over hard work, dedication, and achievement. To argue that getting stoned should be a right, yet getting a job or an education is a hassle. To steal verus earn. To hate versus help.

Yes, I stopped caring today.

But tomorrow, I will put my uniform back on,.................... and I will care again.

I wonder what would happen if when criticizing others, we each as individuals stopped using the words "we," "they," "us," and "them" altogether and instead always insisted on saying "I," "me," or (singular form of) "you"?

Or even better, "Wade," "Kevin," "Dave," "Ray," "Troy," "Alan," etc.

Would that be better?

Would we each as individuals criticize more or less?

Would we each as individuals be more or less justified in the criticisms we make?

Would we each as individuals listen more or less to the criticisms?

Would we each as individuals be more or less transparent about our individual lives?

Or would we each as individuals end up taking too much offense too often?

What would happen if we each as individuals tried this?

Please be clear here: I don't know what the answer to this question of mine, or those I asked in my previous post.

I only know that I'd rather people criticize me because of what I myself have done (and trust me, there's no shortage of things *I've* done that are worthy of criticism), than criticize me because I'm the member of a particular category or because I'm somehow "like" other people who have done worthy-of-criticism things (that I haven't myself done).

And I'm wondering whether things would be improved if we tossed groups and categories out of the story altogether. I remember a while back, for example, when Foster tried to get across the problem with attacks ad hominem. I learned the same thing he did, and I agreed with him at the time. But I wonder if the problem with attacks ad hominem isn't the problem so much as the fact that we like to make attacks ad hominem that do nothing but point to the attacked person's membership in a particular group/category.

"I shouldn't listen to you because YOU are an asshole" and "I shouldn't listen to you because YOU are a member of a group all of whom are assholes" are arguments that are different in kind. Which kind of argument is worse? Which is least likely to lead a discussion in a valuable direction? Which is most likely to lead it in a direction that makes things worse?

Again, I don't know the answer. For some reason, however, I'm starting to think it's a really important answer to find.
