People keep saying players don't fit, well on that note i think that whatever DC comes in and what scheme they run will tell how much we do in Free agency. If we go 3-4 i see alot of moves this year with going after a Peppers and Suggs could be possible or even maybe some big name trades. Maybe a Kampman for Peppers trade. Never know 'll take some bashing for it but like i said you never know what would happen i think Ted Thompson is feeling the heat and might do alot in FA. I say we should go 3-4

Julius Peppers is a horrible fit for the 3-4 as well. He's a great pass rusher, but I don't think he's good enough in space to play outside linebacker in the 3-4. Once again a 3-4 DE is not your top pass rusher. Rarely do they contribute double digit sacks.

Terrell Suggs is the guy you go get. I think someone (AADP maybe?) mentioned that he and Mike Nolan got along real well. If Nolan is the guy or someone else that runs the 3-4, then Suggs is probably No. 1 on your free agent board because he's one of the best pass rushing linebacker in football.

You also could consider Bart Scott and Ray Lewis as well. Baltimore will only franchise one and I think they'll probably franchise Ray Lewis.

I really was on the Albert Haynesworth bandwagon. You got get him as your 3-4 DE. Think Richard Seymour. Although I don't think that will happen.

I really hope we don't go for the 3-4.

3. olb: poppinga could play, thompson, too, the remaining guys would be desasterous at olb. you need at least one guy via fa.

What about Brandon Chillar? Good in pass coverage and showed some pass rushing ability. I think he might work at OLB in a 3-4. I agree with others, by the way, that Kampman would probably be out of place at OLB and would need to play DE.

You know what I find funny?

Take a look at the poll to your right. You'll see a hybrid of 3-4 and 4-3 is winning, so obviously there are people on this board who are open to playing at least some 3-4 but are not speaking up for whatever reason.

I will be vocal.. as much as I like some of the deception a 3-4 can bring to a defense.. I would endorse a 4-3 simply that it is a much more balanced defense along the front.. yes a 3-4 requires less out of the DE, it requires a hell of a lot more out of the linebackers to be utilized to its full potential.. not to mention it requires a manbeast at the nose... those aren't easy to find and don't come cheap.

If I had my druthers, I would run a base 4-3.. with some variations of some 3 man fronts as alternate looks within the game.. or for example, utilizing a unique player that we have in Rouse and use a 4-4 look with him either coming up or dropping back.. kid has unreal range for his size.. use it.

I would rather have a creative mind come in and tailor the defense to our strengths, than come in with a notion of fitting our players into "their" system.. adjust, adapt.. conquer.

I also am for the 4-3, but could see a move to 3-4 in 2010 with the correct players picked up. Cole, Jenkins, Pickett, Jolly, (Justin Harrell) if he can stay healthy would all work on the Dline for a 3-4.

I just have to say, I hope when you refer to Manbeast for NT, you are talking about attitude not size. If you look at the depth charts of teams like the Cowboys, Ravens, NE, MIA that use the 3-4, most of the NT vary from 305 up to 325. Some have bigger. That depends on the style of the 3-4.

Sorry.. should have made it clearer.. yes.. in attitude and stamina.. that is one hard place to play ball.. you get kicked around on three sides at times.. takes a special breed to play that position effectively.

I don't think I've seen this, so I thought I'd throw it up as an FYI thing.

Teams running a 3-4: (Base Defense)

Arizona Cards-- Mostly 4-3 with some 3-4 Packages

Baltimore

Bengals--- Same as Cards

Cleveland

Dallas

Miami

New England

NY Jets

Pittsburgh

San Diego

So I was just thinking of this possible scenario:

1. Mike Nolan is hired.

2. 3-4 / 4-3 hybrid is brought aboard.

3. Brian Arakpo is drafted.

4. 4-3 employed with:

Montgomery, Jenkins, Pickett, Kampman - Hawk, Barnett, Chillar

5. 3-4 employed with:

Jenkins, Pickett, Kampman - Arakpo, Hawk, Barnett, Poppinga

Hell. I think it just might work..

Imo it would not take much to switch to a 3-4 we would need a great rush on the outside 3/4 of the ravens Lb r F.a this year and i dont think any1 plays the 3-4 better then the ravens go after bart scott or Terral suggs (my fav out the 2)

DT there anit many DT in f.a (haynesworth is injured a lot of the time) if we had to go for 1 i would pick Bertrand Berry from the Cards or we could draft B.J. Raji or his boston team mate (think its boston) both of them would fill the Nt well
