I'm not a Vikings fan, obviously. But living in Minneapolis I've seen enough to have an opinion, I think.

I'd pick Jackson in a heartbeat. The main thing I've seen is that the kid has never been allowed to learn and progress as a professional QB. He was on the bench until Chilly finally figured out that Johnson/Bollinger wasn't a good idea last year, he played well, they let him start this year.

For two games. Then it's in w/ another old guy, and TJack's back on the bench. Then that geezer breaks down, Jack's back in, he looks good and everyone here's saying he's the Next Coming. Then he has a bad game (and let's ignore that his O-Line was completely under-performing to the point that AllDay couldn't even get his yards, or that Shiancoe dropped at least one more pass on him at a crucial point, etc.), and now everyone's back to "The kid just doesn't have it." How do you know if he does or not? He hasn't been allowed to have a bad day w/out being pulled for the Old Dude Du Jour.

I think if you actually commit to the kid, he'll do a very good job for the Vikings, and for far longer than the 1-2 years Favre might give you. But expecting him to just pick it all up w/out meaningful playing time is just ridiculous. I know I'd be happy to have him on the bench behind Rodgers - I certainly think Rodgers is better, but I think T-Jack can play.

I agree with ILTP39. Change coaches and either let Jackson sit for the entire season or play for the entire season. As it stands, being dragged back and forth into the lineup and having poor offensive play calling isn't helping his resolve and confidence. I don't think he'll ever be elite but he could be good enough not to be a problem for a team.

The three posts before this one were all excellent.

First off, I appreciate the confidence Engineer and Packers39 showed in T-Jacks future. Earlier this season I would agree with you guys, 100%. I'm really starting to think that Jackson is just another Quincy Carter or Akili Smith. All three were/are essentially pass-first-but-mobile QBs. Jackson seems to do VERY well when he has confidence. He showed this against the Lions, Cardinals and to an extent, the Falcons (in that 3 game stretch, T-Jack's QB rating was an impressive 125.9, and his rating for the last three games of the season was 107.5). But the thing with a starting QB is he needs to be able to have that 'bounce-back ability'. From what I can see, T-Jack doesn't have it. I'm not necessarily calling for his head. I think the Vikings offensive woes are due to a combination of a few things; the lack of creative playcalling, clock management, inconsistent QB play, and the inability to successfully make adjustments are the main ones I came up with. While I want to believe that he can be a solid starting QB for my team (believe me, I WANT it to be true sooo bad. I love a mobile QB), right now, after 3 years of can-he; can't-he, my hope and faith in Jackson is dwindling. I'm a season from saying he's a career back-up.

Second, I was thinking about what this Viking team would have done this year with Favre at the helm. I tend to think they would probably end up with the same 10-6 record, even though Favre would win some games, he'd lose some as well. But, in the playoffs, I think he would've been the difference maker. All because he would have a run game. In his career in GB and in NY, defenses have almost ALWAYS schemed against Favre. With Adrian as his RB, I think opposing defenses would have to pick their poison. Or play to their strength as a defensive unit, as opposed to either stopping AD/Favre. With that in mind, and barring on at least semi-solid offensive line play, the Vikings would have been a legitimate threat in this years playoffs.

In short, I know having Favre on the Vikings only delays the inevitable. Which is finding an average to great QB to run the team. But if an NFC Championship or better for a year or two is highly attainable, I would've sacrificed the QB search/trial.

That's a tricky question, honestly. lol

For one game? I take Favre, 154% of the time.

For anything more than a season, Jackson. All the time.

The question is, how long would they be starting for?

If I were a Vikings fan (I'd cut my nuts off so I fit in) I'd actually prefer Tavaris Jackson over Brett Favre.

Favre is on the downside and contradicts himself while stays away from the team.
Jackson I don't believe does that. Jackson will never have the talent Favre does, but you want to win and if you harness Jackson like we seen Brett harnessed in the preseason, I think they would be okay.

I really think the Vikings need to stop worrying about passing and run run and run some more. They shouldn't be passing the ball anymore than 13-16 times a game, in my opinion.

Chester Taylor + Adrian Peterson + 50 carries between them = Dominant.

Don't have much choice, now do I?

I'm one season from writing Jackson off.. And I also don't expect Favre to play meaningful for more than this season.

Right now, I'm happy with Favre starting and Jackson backing him up. That is a win-win situation for MN right now.

wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
