I like when they don't run Eddie from shotgun... that is what he likes, that under center stuff, so do what makes him comfortable. He actually didn't look stuck in mud, tonight... I would love to see his 10 yard split... that hand off from shotgun must kill him because he hasn't generated a head of steam when he's handed the ball. It doesn't make sense to take a big guy who doesn't accelerate quickly and hand him the ball when he's standing still.

Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of Lacy being subpar. Team used him right and he delivered in a big way.

The good -

Offense was very efficient in generating points without needing a lot of yardage - which was in part thanks to the D. Eddie was running hard and looked like himself. Playcalling put them in a good position to gain yardage on the ground. Rodgers threw the ball to multiple receivers and didn't force the ball to Jordy in excess.

Defense forced multiple turnovers which led to more scoring opportunities. They made many stops which gave the offense better field position than we normally see. It is always encouraging to see your defense put up points - good job capitalizing on the Peppers pick. Pass rush was very much a factor in this game, our guys up front got into the backfield on a regular basis. Minnesota's big play-makers were held in check, nobody on their offense did anything spectacular.

The bad -

Very few moments that were overly disappointing. Personally I didn't much care for the garbage points given up late, but I also understand that they were by no means going to change the outcome of the game. Flynn made a terrible decision on that pass - I knew it was a pick as soon as he let it go. There were a few missed tackles later in the game that made me cringe a little - gave me some week 1 flashbacks.

Clean up the missed tackles and this team looks very good. Considering that Ponder makes most defenses look like they are top 10, it is hard to gauge what the standard will be going forward (but they sure made them pay for mistakes!)

Guion was my player of the game. Probably because it was so unexpected. Great push by the DL and LBs.

Robinson played quite well and hopefully Datone will be back as he was making a difference this season.

That Peppers Pick 6 was the back breaker. What a show of athleticism. Impressed the hell out of me at the speed for such a big guy.

Janis picked up a couple of 1st down catches to keep the clock moving.

Best night sleep after a Packer game in a long time.

Nothing upset me.... well the Flynn INT did, but man it was garbage time and he knew he couldn't run for the 1st down and tried to make a play.

This was the time to "run first" - in the rain and against this D which undoubtedly keyed on what they saw in the Bears game, but I still hope they don't make a habit of it. If they take this game as an absolute positive reinforcement for running too much on early downs, that's bad. Don't get me wrong, I'm well satisfied with 42-0 before we took the foot off the accelerator, but all those punts! We sure didn't maximize things. Rodgers was actually off target a couple of times, and when the O Line is at its best like this, it's still just mediocre. Bulaga has made a great difference. In addition to apparently being healthy, he looks quicker than he was before his injury. Tolzien really needs to be the backup QB. It didn't make any difference in this game, but Flynn is way worse than him.

This team is playing now the way many of us thought they could/would - well, almost. Let's keep it up.

My rapid reaction is that we should be very judicious with what we take away from this game. As we've seen lately, the TNF games don't appear to be a fair representation of a team. That said...

This appears to be the 4th of 5 games that the Packers have had a pass rush.

I was pissing and moaning all off-season about the center position. I think I was wrong.

I wasn't very excited about HaHa when he was drafted. I think I was wrong about him too.

I think it will be important for Green Bay to be able to run from Shotgun, but more in terms of changed plays at the line than lining up and trying to establish that identity from the spread.

I do agree, though, that Lacy is going to be best served getting plenty of opportunities from under center. If the Packers o-line can block as aggressively going forward as they did last night, it will bode well -- particularly for the play action passing game.

Last night he could've been in either and probably been fine with the holes he had.

I, too, am excited and have been excited watching play action freeze defenders. I enjoyed seeing several deep shots last night. We should be chucking them long occasionally. Hopefully, Janis will become a part of what we do so we can see him fly and make plays.

Still, I wonder about this team vs. the better teams in the league. It's great they put 80 on the Bears and Vikings but those aren't the teams you need to do it against to get anywhere meaningful.

Here's Eddie's quote from ESPN:

"I've been [with the quarterback] under center, or behind [the quarterback] my whole life, pretty much," Lacy said. "But even though you might not like something, you have to adapt to it. It’s your job."

If that sounded like Lacy doesn't like running out of the shotgun, he quickly clarified.

"It's not that I don't like running from out of shotgun or I don’t like running from [the quarterback being] under center, you have to do what you have to do," Lacy said. "And this is just part of what you have to do."

---I only posted the 2nd half of this as to not be accused of holding back the rest of what he said. To me, the 2nd portion was a big back off from a clear statement that he doesn't like the gun.

I think it's probably the case that Lacy doesn't prefer running from the shotgun. Just pointing out, comfort level aside, his production there has been better than under center this season.

Lacy had production from shotgun last year, as well. Again, being able to run it out of spread is less about establishing your ground game and more about how the defense is aligned. It will only help the Pack if they can get production against 6-man fronts. That definitely wasn't the case against Detroit.

And not all Shotgun runs are going to require the back to take the handoff flat-footed. See Matt Forte running from Shotgun last week. You can run anything from spread -- zone, iso, B-gap, off-tackle, crack toss (God, please, no more of these).

I think the issue so far has been tentativeness on Lacy's part -- as evidenced by some film breakdown leading up to yesterday's game -- and poor blocking. That wasn't the case against the Vikings, and hopefully the Pack can build on it.

But just so I'm clear: I'm glad they're getting production from under center. And they shouldn't abandon running from shotgun -- it has been productive in the past, with Lacy, and it's more about execution than anything.
