Is there a trend developing? The Green Bay Packers are off to a 1-1 start in the new season. Last year, they finished 8-8-1.

I heartily agree with this piece minus the grade on Randall Cobb.

This quote is the one I think is the most interesting...

"This weekend's game will be the matrix of the whole year for Green Bay," the scout said. "That will tell it all. It will give you a great barometer where they are within the division."

We're just not good enough and people who do this for a living are noticing.

Something tells me you would not have posted this article if the "expert" called the Packers a 13-3 team.

Hey, I predicted 12-4...no home losses and 4-4 on road. After what I've seen, I'm not so sure 12-4 is within reach. D is TERRIBLE. Worse than expected. I believe my prediction was made prior to some of the injuries we suffered.

I can't say I disagree with his player grades so much, but his translating that into a season record is certainly suspect:

His preseason pick to win the NFC North was Minnesota.

bwahahahaha....

Thanks, UDFA, I needed a good laugh... [roflmao]

we suck right now no doubt.

our defense has only shown up 2/8 quarters so far. and has been an effin joke for 6.

our Offense has been iffy as well, tons of sacks, no running game at all through 2 games.

With a mediocre team and Aaron they are 8-8. The offense is better than mediocre so they will go 10-6 with a lot of B-ing.

Pro Football Weekly (now out of business) used to interview scouts from around the league. I recall in '09 that they published a scout’s take that criticized Aaron Rodgers. This same scout hypothesized that Matt Flynn would overtake Rodgers in the future. In other words, I wouldn't read too much into it. For every scout that sees 8-8, another out there sees 12-4. The 8-8 prediction just gets more clicks.

We did go 15-1 a few years ago with a terrible defense. Somehow, this team seems so much worse. Strange, considering this team has a real running game. Maybe, it's because our O isn't as good as many believe, either.

Tomorrow, should tell us a lot. Rodgers has never lost to Detroit when playing a full game. Let's see if we can still say that tomorrow late afternoon. It could be changing of the guard in the NFCN tomorrow.

First of all this is a McGinn story He is wrong 3 or 4 times more than he is right. When he is right so is everyone else in the world.

Next he double talks as he plays up the importance of his "expert".

An experienced executive in personnel for a National Football League team

He is a scout. He may be the head scout for a team but very few scouts are considered executives. That term is used for Presidents, VPs, GMs and a few other key staff people. If he was an executive he would not be referred to as a scout.

Selected because of his level of expertise and success in the NFL,

Sounds like a McGinn drinking buddy. A successful scout would actually be promoted beyond the scout level. McGinn would only use this man as his source if the scout supported McGinn's theory.

he has studied the Packers this summer, this September and for years before that.

Ok he is a scout in the NFC North division. A scout for San Diego for example would be familiar with the GB organization but would not scout them every single year extensively enough to have an accurate opinion on every player on the team. So what do you want a scout for divisional rival to say publicly? That GB has the greatest team around? Not really he is going to criticize it as much as he can. He will down play their abilities and magnify their weaknesses.

Even with all this scouts get their appraisals wrong all the time. Just look at draft day. They fail on the evaluations as much or more than they get right.

I feel much better about the Packers knowing McGinn and his buddy think they will finish 8-8.
