Those who would say draft status doesn't matter should consider we kept Carl Bradford and Demetri Goodson. Are you kidding me?

Jumal Rolle got kicked in the nuts on this one.

Bradford is terrible but we're so bad at ILB I guess I can stomach him sticking.

    We kept all 9 draftees.

I thought they might keep Goodson over Rolle. Rolle is nothing special and probably maxed out on his potential, Goodson is a better prospect. At #6CB you keep the guy you think can be better.

I get keeping Bradford too, it's not his fault they made him play out of position for 3 weeks. We've got enough depth at ILB that he probably won't have to play this year.

I don't feel like we'll really miss anyone we let go besides Rolle and Banjo and even both of those guys are just... meh

When it comes down to it though unless some catastrophe happens neither of these guys will probably see any meaningful snap in coverage and would be a gameday inactive so you have to take the guy you think has the higher potential unless one just completely shits the bed and Goodson had some breakdowns but he also showed some solid skills.

Neither Goodson or Rolle has ever played in a real NFL game. Rolle has been cut by three teams and cleared waivers twice I believe.

But disagree with the Goodson / Rolle...

If Rolle got hit in the nuts it's own fault... yes he made plays but he also gave them up... Rolle was like former Packers Safety Aaron Rouse.... Rouse made a lot of big plays (which excited fans) but he also gave a lot of them up to the offenses (which ticked off the coaches). Same with Rolle...

In the last preseason game Rolle had what should of been an INT (if it didn't get called back), but he also gave up what could of been a TD if not for an error by the WRs (which he didn't see as his back was towards him) and on a short catch and run he COMPLETELY whiffed on a tackle... Rolle played the second half of that game like he had a spot wrapped up...which he didn't.

Compare that to Goodson coverage on James Jones where Jones (a good route running vet beats him) but he didn't quit... he tried to knock the ball out and take Jones to the ground... and in the end no touch down because he knocked the ball out for a second and knocked Jones out of bounds in that second.

Is Goodson better than Rolle RIGHT NOW... no he's not... but it's not all about right now... Goodson also showed potential and his potential (if he grows) ceiling is higher than Rolle's potential...

Yes, we kept 4 UDFA's by my accounting which is the correct type of accounting... none of those 4 on your list were waived/injured.

Jarrett Boykin was cut by the Jaguars and he's the greatest thing since sliced bread here. So, what is the point of pointing out Rolle has been cut? Go look at Cullen Jenkins road to the NFL. I'd say without that guy we don't win it in 2010. We haven't been close to getting back after he left.

I like all the UDFA's that we kept IR or not. Lots of promise in that group. I'd argue there is almost as much promise in the UDFA group than the draftee group. That is good and bad.

We need a NT. We don't have a starter there.

We also need a T. We're set with starters, but we don't have depth.

This is the 53 for now, but there could still be some turnover on the bottom of the roster.

I guess I'll give it my stamp of approval. I woulda kept Stoneburner, but it's hard to say in place of who. Rolle was not overly impressive in the two games I saw. I agree, Goodson undoubtedly has more upside. I exactly agree with the numbers in each position group, which is actually as important or more than the players named.

I also got the distinct impression you wanted Rolle over Goodson. Maybe there is a reason Rolle went undrafted and now has been cut by 3 teams, maybe not. If not, and they like both players, then maybe the fact he has cleared waivers twice already makes it more likely the Packers can stash him on the practice squad than Goodson? I dunno. I don't think you do either.

They are also running a business, and all else being equal, it is cheaper against the cap to cut an undrafted guy than a draft pick. I know that should not be the only factor, but remember neither Goodson or Rolle has ever played in a real NFL game, and we don't know everything the coaches have seen regarding upside potential.

Not complaining, UDFA last year who was pushed onto the 53 man roster due to other injuries, he probably needed another year.

I guess Ted and Mike figured he was worth keeping around and Jake must have "pulled a muscle" while he was tweeting today.

That's the only real surprise, other than Goodson making the final 53 I see.

Awful young on the D-line, let's hope Mike Daniels keeps these guys fired up.

This defense is weak up the middle with or without Raji, and has been since Bishop got hurt. I really hope this Barrington kid can get on the field. Power running teams will eat them up, so when we play teams like that; it is very important to play with a lead.

When your D is weak up the middle for 3 straight seasons and isn't fixed, even a little, that is very poor leadership from the top.

MM said we're about winning championships and that is always the goal... How can we believe that when our same glaring weakness is present again? My goodness how many more years is it going to be like this?

Like I noticed today the RB Neal, ILB Thomas and OL Tiller were sent to IR during the 75 man cut downs... but on Packers.com I don't see them listed on the IR on the updated roster...

Maybe a mistake on Packers.com's part? Or maybe they got injury settlements and released like TE Lyerla?
