I don't think anybody would have anything bad to say about Brad Jones at the veteran minimum or near it. It's just that inexplicably bad contract Ted gave him that turns me and a lot of others against him - that and the fact that Lattimore and just about anybody else stuck in his spot does as good or better than he did.

I strongly disagree with uffda's assessment of our TE situation. Quarless impresses me as a normal type TE - a decent receiver and a decent blocker. He may not have the flash and moves of Finley, but that's not what I want to see in a TE. I want a guy who can plant in an opening just beyond the first down line, stand out like a big tree, and catch the ball. They say Rodgers plays "bigger" than his measurables; That sounds promising too, especially since he is reputed to be solid at catching the ball. Bostick honestly didn't show me much, but supposedly he has ability, so we can always hope. I'm hopeful but not overly optimistic about Lyerla. You would think 32 teams that didn't draft him must have fairly good reason. I have a higher opinion of Stoneburner than some, but likely, he will get lost in the shuffle.

Anyway you look at it, though, we are well-stocked.

I think to some having a lot of guys on a roster at a position= well stocked. Every team has multiple players at each position. Many are anything but "well stocked".

Wow, Texas... you think we're good at TE? Quarless has terrible hands. I trust him less than Finley when it comes time to make a big 3rd down grab. His drop percentage of 13.33% left him 5th from the worst in the NFL for a TE. Only 4 TE's in the NFL had a worse drop percentage than this guy. He has 56 career receptions in 4 seasons (1 lost to injury). So, if we say 3 seasons he's averaged less than 19 catches a season. NINETEEN! He's a TE you're comfortable with, with his terrible hands and rebuilt leg? No thanks. His paltry salary for a guy with 4 years of service tells you the team gets it... Quarless is a JAG, but a JAG who knows our system and can block which is something none of the others have proven they can do. The cupboard is about as bare as bare can get there. Potential a plenty but reliability of near zero.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

TE is still a question mark. That is why there is so much interest in seeing who stands out from the group once training camp starts.

With the new emphasis on the running game I think Quarless is EXACTLY the kind of TE they want. With the addition of Cobb as the slot guy, they can still creatre mismatches in the passing game, and I think they like a guy who can block a little at the TE spot.

I don't think we have any big play guys there but I don't think we need an all pro at that spot, just someone reliable and steady...think Heath Miller.

I think a lot is going to be put on HaHa this year and it will be a real challenge. In a year or two I think he's a pro bowler but it's tough to make it as a rookie back there.

ILB only really concerns me because I see no reason to believe the injury situation will improve. Remember Dan Morgan from Carolina? Studd LB but couldn't stay on the field and it shortened his career. Every year the Panthers went into camp thinking they were set at LB and every year they were in trouble by week 5.
