Yes, Kampman didn't look good in coverage, but he was pretty effective and had a low completion % when his guy was targeted.

He also led the team in pressures on the QB up until he got hurt.

The media kept saying how bad he looked in coverage, but they failed to note how effective he was.

I agree everyone seemed to think the worse of Kampman at OLB because his sacks were down and he wasn't talked nearly as much to the media (reportedly didn't like the change to OLB, and personally I think it was stupid he wasn't allowed to get into a 3 point stances when they went to the 2-4 nickel, everyone knew he was coming anyways).


But while Kampman sacks numbers were low, he had a ton of pressures and a number of his pressures turned into rushed / stupid QB throws which lead to a high number of INTs (because instead of holding the ball and taking the sacks the QBs were taking a risk and throwing it, which didn't work out very well for them that year as the Packers DB would take it).

But the DBs got all the credit for that (and they should get some with out a doubt) but the pass rusher should of gotten some as well and usually it seemed to be Kampman that year.

The thing with kampman was the media and fans made such a big deal about his transition and how he wasn't really comfortable playing linebacker that they just completely zero'd in on any little thing that didn't go right and just ignored that he was still a good pass rusher. If he gave up a 5 yard reception to a RB in the flat it was just blah blah blah about how he's not doing well in coverage never mind that he'd crushed the QB 3 or 4 times in the same game.

It was. Got hurt with us then next year with the jags and that was the end of his career I believe. Was a shame because he was such a great player for us. Would've been nice to get him and Harris a ring.

I thought we gave Al a ring, cause he went to training camp with us in the fall of 2009? There is a huge difference between a 4-3 DE and a 3-4 outside linebacker. Thankfully Big Julius has the athleticism to pull it off. Jared Allen could not have played OLB.
