I am glad to hear that he doesn't seem to be in panic mode like most of the fans and that he is going to stick to his plan and not let peoples emotions dictate the team. It seems to me like the Packers have always been a team that pretty much built up talent from within. Not something completely new with Ted Thompson.

The team was a teeter totter this year and it just happened to fall the wrong direction. I don't think it was all that terrible and even though we lost a lot this year we had an exciting game every time. I feel better about this team for next year than I would if I was a fan of any of the other losing record teams and even some of the teams with a winning record.

I feel like zero does in that I would like to see some improvements in some areas but I am glad that it doesn't seem like we are going to go crazy and just throw money at people because of their name.

Has anyone ever heard Ted Thompson called arrogant, stupid, and/or ego driven? There is an alternative explanation. There is a possibility he is low profile, highly intelligent, and wise. I have stated that wisdom is a quiet avocation, and suspect very strongly that we are blessed with a GM in possession of said attribute.

Tidbit:

Ted Thompson graduated from SMU with academic all-southwest conference honors.

A fair-minded person would at least contemplate this.

I'm not saying that everyone here hasn't, I'm just sayin'...

There is also the possibility that he is a fool. 6-10 after being in the NFC championship game the year prior would bear that possibility out. Next year will tell, I guess.

A lot of teams have had a bad season the next year after being in the NFC Championship.... yet people still keep wanting to use it as an example why you should be top dog the next year. What you did the year before really doesn't seem to mean much especially in the NFC for some reason.

someone may wanna check but I think the Giants are the only team in like the last 3 or 4 years to get double digit wins after appearing in the NFC Championship game the year before.

They also happen to be the only playoff team from last year to return the playoffs. This is not an excuse for such a poor season but it does show the competitiveness of the NFL and that success from one year does not automatically mean success the next.

As far as the people gone hell we could have a full new team next year noone ever knows.

Since no one knows, how is it you can evaluate the team and say we dont have a great team?

Because we finished 6-10 or did you forget?

I'd say we have a good team, but not great. I said the same thing about our team last year when we did get all the lucky bounces and were virtually injury free.

Pitts, SD, Titans, Colts made it in from last year too

But yes as I have pointed out more than once, more often than not, teams in the CG do not make the playoffs the following year

As far as money management, he has done well. But as far as putting a winning team on the field, so far he has failed.

I know I am in the minority here, but to me, a losing record after four years is not good enough.

Packer history is being re-written on this board to soften the blow of realization that The Packers were one game away from The Superbowl only to have the GM decide that going in another direction was the better choice.

It's a real shame that EVERY break. EVERY bad call, went against The Packers in 2008, while in 2007 The Packers were just lucky.

REALITY WILL SET IN SOMEDAY, Probably after another year or two of :500 or less football that Ted Thompson and MM need to go.

AR is still a young guy, he needs coaching that let's him go out and win games, he needs all around better talent(offense and defense) to help him in those wins.

That isn't happening at this point, and I don't see any big changes coming, since most seem to be happy with mediocracy.

I can see the bio now, "AR great stats qb, just couldn't win the big games".
In the end whether it is fair or not your starting qb gets most of the credit for wins and losses.

I hvae said it since last summer,"TT is doing nothing but setting AR up to fail", he has a good start after the 2007 season.
I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Predictably, this thread is going steadily downhill. Supporters of this team's administration comport themselves more or less rationally; why cannot its detractors? Please, people, you can express disagreement without calling people "a fool" and other personal attacks.

This thread was supposed to be about Ted Thompson's acknowledgment that the team could have performed better, not an analysis of his strengths or shortcomings as a general manager.

I'm glad Ted realizes we should have been better. I'm curious, what's he going to do about it now that he's acknowledged the obviously publicly?
