Dustin Keller is “good to go” from serious knee injury

Keller had his knee obliterated in a preseason game between the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans last August. Texans safety D.J. Swearinger collided with Keller’s knee trying to make a tackle. The blow proved devastating to Keller’s knee. He suffered torn a torn ACL, MCL and PCL along with a dislocated knee due to the collision.

Dude's damaged goods, so Ted can get a discount.

In his last full season with the Jets in 2011, Keller caught 65 passed for 815 yards and five touchdowns.

Dude can play, imo. At least he could before the injury.

Dustin is a guy I was looking at when we were drafting in the first round in 2008. I'm glad we traded back and took Jordy Nelson instead.

He was a good player before the injury and, outside of his rookie year with Favre, he's not had a halfway decent quarterback to throw him the ball. Part of what he brought to the table was his relative athleticism for his size and I'd be worried what blowing out his MCL, ACL and PCL will do to him long term.

He might be worth a look as a contingency plan. If he's healthy, he'd be a good addition.

Just because an agent says he is good to go does not really mean he can play at a high level in the NFL. Unless of course you believe agents always tell the truth. Let's hear 2-3 doctors who deal with NFL athletes say he is good to go before we even think about asking if he is a fit in GB.

I really doubt Dustin Keller is "good to go." The guy totally shredded his knee. He'll probably take a route similar to Andrew Quarless. If he plays at all this season, I would be surprised. And even if he does play, I don't expect him to be particularly effective. He wasn't a whole lot more than an average tight end recently before a massive knee injury. He's not overly big either, at "only" 6'2. Jordy Nelson is taller.

If I were a general manager, I'd easily pass unless I thought I could sign him, place him on injured reserve, and see if he can contribute anything next season. All things considered, just doesn't seem worth it for a smaller average tight end that's going to be 30 this year. I'd rather his reps go to Brandon Bostic.

I'd definitely take a look at him.

Like the earlier poster said, low risk, high potential reward.
