Only sign him to an incentive laden deal for this season, put him on the PUP list until game 9 and let him rehab that neck. He more than likely is not ready to play yet.

Any injured player has the right to come back and prove himself. It isn't like Finley is a poor man, he's made good coin the last few seasons. Both parties should get some insurance on any contract. And after Finley proves he's healthy, pay him top five TE money!

With that said, I'm more on the "keep him" side of the fence, but for bargain basement prices, certainly nothing close to 8 mil/year, hell not even Raji money.

I think James Jones signing with Raiders opens it up for Jermichael Finley to return to the Packers. Finley has done a much better job the last two seasons of not saying such ridiculous stuff. His play on the field was always pretty damn good too.

Last two full seasons he has

Receptions 116
Yards 1,434
TD's 10

That is pretty good in this offense. I don't think it's $8 million a year good, but more so $5 million a year plus incentives.

To be honest, I've moved on mentally with Finley being on this team. Between his contract, injuries and always tantalizing talent but not living up to his potential, I'm ready for someone else to step up and be the big dog at TE. Whether it's Quarless, Bostick, a draft pick or whatever.

If it weren't for the injury, I would be fine with him returning.

But I just can't get past the injury. I think there's a reason its a bad idea to come back from fusion surgery. If I were in the Packers situation, I don't think I'd consider it. I couldn't face myself if I saw him down again on the turf unmoving.

Source: Finley failed Seahawks physical

The source didn’t know whether the Seahawks will bring Finley back for a re-check. Though Finley has said he expected his surgeon to proclaim the bone in the neck fusion healed this month, that doesn’t mean NFL teams will clear him to play football, at least for now.

For one, Finley might have collateral issues in the neck that could be preventing him from passing a physical until or if they heal better. His initial injury included a spinal contusion.

Also, some doctors think C-3/C-4 fusions are too high up the neck to clear players, at least at some positions, because there are too few discs above to compensate for the fused disk.

For a recovery comparison, Packers safety Sean Richardson underwent fusion surgery on his C-5/C-6 vertebrae in January 2013 and wasn’t cleared by the Packers’ medical staff until mid-November, 10 months later. Former Houston Texans running back Steve Slaton had neck fusion surgery in January 2010 and wasn’t cleared until the start of training camp 6 ½ months later.

Sign him for cheap, put him on the PUP list, and see if he can play the second half of the season. Or, sign Sweet Sidney Rice and Owen Daniels and go into the season loaded up.

Also on another interesting note, it's been reported that "Finley would collect a $10 million tax-free insurance policy were he to never play football again."

I can't see this happening until maybe next season. There can't be any way Finley is ready to play football again, and I doubt Ted will take the chance this soon after his surgery.

Personally, I'm not all that keen about him coming back to GB. He had ample chances to show he was a top flight talent and never really did. To me, that was disappointing. I expected way more from him when he was healthy. Now? I'd prefer we move on and save $5M for Nelson or Cobb.
