If he's cheap enough, hell yeah, sign him. We had that other thread about Arthur Jones and Lamarr Houston; I'd take Jared Allen over either of them any day - and he'd probably cost less.

Jared Allen does not fit the scheme. He's too small to play 3-4 end and you don’t take a guy who has played with his hand in the dirt for 10 years and make him into an outside linebacker. If you want to upgrade the pass rush with a veteran, then Lamarr Woodley is a better investment for the Packers.

I absolutely would NOT want another Neal-like experiment - making him an OLB. I also agree he isn't suited to be a full time 3-4 DE. However, as a fairly low cost pass rush specialist - hand in the dirt, I like that idea. Same side as Matthews/Opposite side as Matthews, either way sounds pretty good.

I suppose Allen will demand too much money, though.

It would be a pretty sweet burn on the Vikings to sign him for two years, and win two Super Bowls. But realistically, if you would sign Jared, then just flip back to a 4-3 and have Matthews put his hand in the dirt and rush the passer.
