He might want to start getting the ball out a little faster.

Looks like this thread "evolved" hahahaha.

I disagree that odds are against Rodgers lasting as long as Peyton - who, of course is far from done even at 37. I thoroughly expect both of them to be going strong until 40. For odds to be against it, you'd have to be talking about 41 or 42.

As for this crap about Rodgers getting rid of the ball quicker that keeps creeping into discussions, no way I want to see that. The holding onto the ball thing is linked directly to 1 throwing so few interceptions and 2 extending plays with his feet and making plays. I do NOT want to see the greatest QB in the NFL give up his uniqueness to satisfy wrongheaded whiners.

I guess this pertains to the original premise in that those worried about Rodgers not lasting long would want to use next year's pick(s) to upgrade this year. It still would be a bad idea, though, as I doubt anybody thinks he will fade away in a year or two, and that for sure, trading away next year would bite us in the ass within that year or two time frame.

At age 37 Payton just played about as bad a game as possible, and I loved every minute. So much for old age theories. Texas is right about the interceptions Rodgers doesn't throw though. It's because he doesn't rush his throws. Can we just chalk up the injury to a fluke hit and quit whining like a bunch of Viking fans?

I'm in favor of keeping more draft picks this year than next. Maybe trade the 32nd pick next year for someones 1st rounder this year?

From my perspective, this is the deepest and best draft class I’ve seen in probably ten years. That’s been reinforced by most of the general managers and scouts I’ve talked to throughout the league. I had one GM tell me the other day that having a Top-20 pick this year is very similar to having a Top-10 pick last year.

I think there’s more depth, I think there are certain positions that are stacked this year and you can get a quality player through three or four rounds.

Wait, no, NO! Do not get a 1st round pick. What the hell am I thinking. No. Trade this years 1st, plus next years 32nd overall pick for a bunch of early 2nd rounders and early 3rd rounders.

Hardy Nickerson and Joe Johnson were supposed to fill gaps back in the Sherman years but clearly that didn't work. We could spend 9 mil on Byrd and he could go the way of Haynesworth or get injured day 2 of training camp. This is why in general I like Ted's approach, he knows there is never a sure thing or silver bullet so he never makes a knee jerk move that could jeopardize future years and needs.

How about "NO MOVES?"

We were made to look like pretenders in the playoffs, three years in a row. How can you like that approach? You don't see his INACTION jeopardizing the 2014 season as well as the last 3?

Did he draft a top Safety last year? Yeah, didn't think so. It was such a glaring need, and it remains so.

I do happen to think, like PFWT, our window of opportunity is not all that big anymore. We've pretty much kicked the "we're not going to play in FA" can down the road for 3 years, and look what that has gotten us. Three seasons wasted. This next one is not looking too promising either unless we add the top talents we need at multiple positions on defense, for starters.

That is why I am hoping for a more balanced approach to adding talent to our roster, utilizing all means of talent acquisition at Ted's disposal in order to alleviate our problems and put us back into legit SB contention.

There are no guarantees. I never said there were. But, like the lottery, you can't win if you don't play. We won with Woodson and Pickett in their primes. Ted boldly traded up into R1 in 2009 to add two very serious defenders at positions of need. And, we won a SB. That took 4-5 years to add all of that talent together.

To me, we are way behind schedule, and some bold moves must be made again if we are to truly contend with the likes of SEA and SF, et al in these next 3-5 years, which is our window with Aaron at QB.

I'm not asking for knee jerk moves from Ted Thompson. I'm asking for his best and most comprehensive personnel moves ever made. We need that now. Trading up in the draft, signing key FAs, making a trade or two for top talent. Whatever it takes.

I want to see us just CLEAN UP in this year's draft, as well as in FA. Turn this league on its ear and contend for the Lombardi Trophy, no, WIN the Lombardi Trophy at least 3 times in these next 5 seasons, with Aaron Rodgers guiding the way, and a SOLID team behind him.

If we can get a group of second rounders like Eddie Lacy and Jordy Nelson, I'd be happy.

Atlanta went from NFC Champ game to 4-12 in one year...I don't like getting clobbered by NYG and SF, but I'll take consecutive playoff appearances over 4-12, especially ones in which the Packers went toe-to-toe against arguably the second best team of the 2013 season.

The Packers were dominated by the read option in 2012, so they selected Jones, who was considered by some the best DE in the draft to defend the read option. With the second pick, Ted filled a hole that hasn't been filled since Ahman Green and we have a ROY to show for that. You ALWAYS have holes to fill, this is why I've been saying throughout this thread not to put too many eggs in one basket. If the Packers had 5 more draft picks, and 15 million more dollars than every other franchise, it'd be a lot easier to address every position. Every team has risks they take at positions because it's a necessity with a salary cap.

As I've alluded to before, Seattle has 1/7th of their salary cap tied up in two WRs who hardly see the field (who they traded for/signed as FAs, btw). Conversely, they have All Pros and cornerstones that led them to the SB which they found in later rounds (Chancellor and Sherman RD 5, Wilson 3, Unger Rd 2). Yes, they made some FA moves, and it can be effective, but generally you're paying a lot more for a FA which can end up being just as unproductive as a 3rd rounder who may come at a fraction of the cost. I'm not saying avoid FA, but to say we need to "go all in" this year and jeopardize future drafts is unnecessary and unstable for the future of the franchise. Finally, just because the Packers didn't get a big FA this offseason doesn't mean they didn't try - look at S. Jackson, we tried, and look at Saturday two years ago. Both ended up being disappointments for their respective teams, btw.
