Awhile back I read where Joe Whitt Jr said he took someone out of the game and put someone else in for some reason. Reading one of the comments about Dom Capers starting M.D. Jennings over Sean Richardson reminded me of that comment.

Who actually decides who starts and who sits? Does anyone have any source information to support it's the position coach or the coordinator or head coach? I presume it be a suggestion by the position coach to which the coordinator agrees/disagrees and the head coach has veto power.

This is a good question.

Somebody also decided to start James Jones with broken ribs, that didn't work and Boykin was playing well enough to replace him if needed.

Yeah, that's just the tip of the iceberg regarding starters who don't seem as good as the guys on the bench behind them. And the related question is who sends subs into the game? I wouldn't think McCarthy is directly doing that on gameday.

Of course, none of this would even be an issue if overall team personnel was up to the standard it should be. Gosh, whose fault could THAT possibly be?

I don't have a source but I would say the order is like this:

HC
OC/DC
Position Coach

If makes a change ok fine but he has to answer to The Dom who if he approves has to answer to Mike.

That's why I find it interesting so many people blame Capers for starting Perry on the left side when he's flashed more potential on the right, yet they give Coach Greene so much credit... it's probably coach Greene who would make that call. Not Capers.

As far as the Safety position, it seems like they have been trying to get Burnett back to SS more... problem is you would need a FS for that... and Jennings is the only FS they have... and he's error prone...

I think the Packers are alright at SS... they need a FS. And a lot of talk about Hyde playing S... I think he'd be another good SS option... but the Packers need a good FS.

If I was making mistakes at my job and my boss didn't correct them, I would still get in trouble, but so would my boss because he's ultimately responsible for everything we produce. Ultimately, it would end up in lost contracts and some of us without jobs.

If I were to venture a guess, during the week I'd say Capers/Clements/McCarthy game planing with input from the position coaches while during the game the position coaches.

While I have no official knowledge of how the Packers do things, it is pretty logical to assume that it is a combination of Coordinator and Positions coaches. On defense they setup who is the starter at each position for each package. And it is normal to look at backups that they want to get playing time. For example, Starks coming in for a series or two when there is nothing wrong with Lacy. Those are normally planned with the gameplan also.

The only question is, who makes the call in game for performance issues and I believe that would normally be the Position coach, they are the once who are watching their guys. It is hard for Capers to see what all 11 are doing all the time. But I would suspect that if a position coach makes a call to change somebody out, Capers is told why and can say to change back if he wants.

I say again, would we even care about this if we didn't have significant personnel problems?

As much as I've grown to like Boykin, the Packers made the right decision putting Jones on the field. Not only is he the starter, you want to have your leaders, your seasoned players in there.

Zero2Cool (22m) : I don't want him, but paying two WR $30m plus isn't good
Zero2Cool (23m) : Steelers and George Pickens. I wonder if he's available.
Martha Careful (41m) : Any intest in Van Jefferson? Steelers may let him go cheap.
Zero2Cool (54m) : Kupp probably traded eventually
Mucky Tundra (1h) : If Adams still has some gas in the tank, then Adams and Nacua should do alright along with whatever the corpse of Kupp can throw in
buckeyepackfan (11h) : Sorry 13 mil guaranteed.
buckeyepackfan (11h) : Aaron Jones resigns with The Vikings. 2yr 20mil, 12mil guaranteed.
Zero2Cool (11h) : Adams preffered west coast.

buckeyepackfan (11h) : Josh Allen extension includes 250mil in GUARANTEED money!
buckeyepackfan (11h) : Metcalf traded to The Steelers. Every year I forget this is Misinformation time. Have to quit listening to "The talking heads" 😀
dhazer (12h) : or do we tell them we take metcalf you take alexander lol
dhazer (12h) : I am curious about if we waste money on Metcalf he isn't worth $30 million a year
dhazer (12h) : Adams is going to a good team and gets to play indoors majority of the time can't blame him and isn't he from Fresno?
Zero2Cool (13h) : Rams land Adams of Davante fame.
Martha Careful (14h) : it's funny how guys who are so desperate to play for championships, at least so they say, just take the money.
Mucky Tundra (15h) : Semantics ;)
Zero2Cool (16h) : They didn't return. They didn't even leave! ;-)
Mucky Tundra (16h) : Crosby and Garrett return to their respective teams; truckloads of $$$ solved any problems they had

Zero2Cool (20h) : Bills are releasing pass rusher Von Miller, per sources.
Zero2Cool (20h) : From trade to truce and beyond: the Browns and Myles Garrett reached agreement today on a record contract extension that averages $40m
TheKanataThrilla (8-Mar) : I could actually see Seattle inquiring about Willis.
TheKanataThrilla (8-Mar) : If we took a flyer on a QB, I like Kyle McCord out of Syaracuse. Keep Willis definitely, but don't turn down a good trade.
Mucky Tundra (8-Mar) : RB Kareem Hunt as well
Zero2Cool (8-Mar) : Tyreek Hill also arrested before or during Chiefs time for assault.
Martha Careful (8-Mar) : Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested for assault. They are now even more likely to supplement the WR position
Mucky Tundra (8-Mar) : So weak I had to say it twice!
Mucky Tundra (8-Mar) : But it feels like a weak QB draft class
Mucky Tundra (8-Mar) : But it feels like a weak QB draft class
Mucky Tundra (8-Mar) : I suppose that puts Seattle in play for a QB in the 1st round this year
Mucky Tundra (8-Mar) : Gotta say, didn't see Geno getting traded from the Seahawks
Zero2Cool (8-Mar) : Breer: Seahawks offered the Raiders Geno Smith and DK Metcalf for EDGE Maxx Crosby; Raiders "quickly" declined.
Zero2Cool (8-Mar) : It has 2019 Packers schedule.. yeah, I be slowly coding haha
Zero2Cool (8-Mar) : Finally got the 'new' PackersHome online...
Zero2Cool (8-Mar) : Nice work Seahawks!
dhazer (8-Mar) : wow Geno Smith to the Raiders for a 3rd rounder
Zero2Cool (6-Mar) : Good deal too
Martha Careful (6-Mar) : Maxx Crosby resigned by Raiders
Zero2Cool (6-Mar) : Chargers release Joey Bosa
Zero2Cool (4-Mar) : Appears Jets released Adams. It'll be official in few hours.
Zero2Cool (3-Mar) : We have re-signed LB Isaiah McDuffie
Zero2Cool (2-Mar) : Jets taking calls for Davante Adams. That $38m cap number hurting lol
Zero2Cool (2-Mar) : Guess it's not official until the 12th
Zero2Cool (2-Mar) : Deebo went for a 5th to Commanders?
Martha Careful (1-Mar) : Just like my late husband!!
