Differs from Rodgers? Differs from Wallace? Differs from last season?
It seemed like McCarthy, before Rodgers got hurt, was trying to remake the Packers from great down to ordinary - rein in Rodgers and increase the balance of runs to passes - exactly what a lot in here were hoping for (NOT me). The fallacy in that plan is that the Packers O Line isn't good enough to make it work. The other fallacy in that plan is that Rodgers is so good that reining him in - wasting early downs on failed runs - is NOT beneficial.
The injury FORCED the Packers to do what they were pushing for anyway. Wallace, however, was so bad that there was no respect from opponents' D, therefore no hope for running.
With Tolzien now, the Packers SHOULD be able to go back to exactly what they were trying to do with Rodgers before the injury. Tolzien probably isn't good enough to dominate the game like Rodgers did the past couple of seasons (and like I HOPE the Packers go back to when he returns), but Tolzien IS good enough to command respect and enable Lacy and Starks to get some room to run. The key, though, is for the Packers to PASS FIRST even with Tolzien - gets some respect - THEN let Lacy run wild.
