The Packers might go looking for other team's castoffs at the cutdown time, particularly at kicker, safety, offensive line and quarterback.

Our depth has been pretty shallow outside of WR and CB for a long time now...

QB:
Flynn, had a 1-1/2 year window of respect.. Before that he and Brohm were pretty awful

RB:
Brandon Jackson, failed miserably as a starter
Alex Green, one IR'd season, one awful season.
James Starks, always hurt, has no vision at all
Ced Benson. Did nothing, then got put on IR.
Ryan Grant part deux, one good game..then nothing
Brandon Saine, nothing.

FB = NA
We only carry Kuhn

OT:
Depth has been so putrid, we have moved gaurds TJ Lang and Daryn College to replace injured players. And let's not forget the Tony Moll and Allan Barbre eras.. Bulaga has been our best OT since Tausher/Clifton.. And that's sayin something since he's been on IR the last 2 years. Newhouse sucks at LT, and Sherrod is approaching Justin Harrell territory.

OLB: nobody worth a damn aside from CM3 since we moved to a 3/4

DL:
Our backup NT is playing end...
CJ Wilson, Jarius Wynn have been terrible in their effort to replace Jenks
Neal, and Worthy have not lived up to their 2nd round pick

I'm just rambling and need to go to bed.

At this point Raji, I can certainly understand your frustration. Who would have thought we'd have 3 OL on IR going into this 2013 season? That's the way it is starting to look, as I bet Sherrod needs another year out.

The only guy you listed that I think may actually turn out to be a player, or at least potentially up his game is CJ Wilson, who looked decent Friday night, and has practiced well all camp. Another you did not mention was Amosa at FB. I like the way he is blocking a bit better than Kuhn, who I feel has lost it some. Almost forgot Starks. This may be his year, and I think it would be a mistake to release him.

I'm really, really hoping Mike Neal comes around and gives us a great season. His unavailability has been super disappointing.

I don't know that I agree that depth is "deteriorating". Maybe it's shifted some because some positions are deeper than they've been in quite a while.

QB- Looks bad right now. Won't have much depth here unless VY comes on and becomes a quality back up.

RB - No explanation needed, deeper than it's ever been in recent memory.

WR - Not as deep as in the past but looking around the league being 5 deep at a position isn't something you should expect to keep up for long. We are still no less deep here than the rest of the league in general.

TE- We aren't strong at the back up positions but I don't see how anything has detiorated here since it's the same players we've had for a while

OL - Way more depth here than any time recently. Light on the interior but it may end up that our back up swing tackle is the guy whose been starting for us the last 2 years. Most of the back ups are going to be guys we had around last year only they have more experience now. I think it showed in the preseason game as the back up offensive line was adequate when last year it was completely atrocious.

DL - Depth and starters here looks much better than I can remember in some time. Guys like Wilson, Daniels, Neal, and Worthy (should be ready to come off PUP mid season) should be the bench/rotation guys and are much better than anybody we've had recently.

OLB - This is a position with some shallow depth but I don't really see that it has "deteriorated" any since before we've had guys like Zombo, Brad Jones, and Walden starting with guys worse than them as back ups. We've got one quality looking back up in Moses but it won't be a strong position unless someone like Palmer or Mulumba shows something.

ILB - I can't say this position is too much deeper than usual because we've had back ups step up from this position in the past and prove to be quality players. Our back ups here have potential but it's completely unproven. I'd say we have more guys with high potential than we usually have but they haven't shown much at this point.

CB - This position is deeper than ever. We go 3 deep with proven starting quality players (some teams are happy to have 1) and have guys who've shown some potential in House and Hyde and Bush is the #6 where he should be.

S - This is probably the worst depth on the team. We've got 1 proven starter with 2 guys who probably can start reliably and not really anybody with much potential behind them.

From the above posts it doesn't look as though our depth has deteriorated as much as our starters have deteriorated. We haven't effectively replaced Cliffton, Grant, Driver/Jennings, Woodson, Jenkins, or Collins with proven players. Cobb would appear to be the answer at WR and Lacy/Franklin could do the same at RB but that leaves 4 positions leaving something to be desired.

Imo the only depth we need right now is at Saftey. I still can't believe we didn't get one in the draft.

Who in the NFL has a quality backup QB? Only a few teams. If you take away the best quarterbacks in the league they won't be the same either. I wish we would stop on the topic, if we lose Rodgers it's over. Well if the Patriots lose Tom Brady, If the Broncos lose Payton Manning, it should be over for them too..

Not many teams have a Matt Cassel or Colin Kaepernick. It's a dime inn the dozen to hit on a backup QB these days.

Offensive line is ok unless we lose someone else to injury. Barclay and Bakhtiari was good depth before. Bak came in for Bulaga, playing great so far. Not the best depth at OL but it's there. GVR, Taylor, and Lewis are also coming on as backups. We haven't even seen what Datko can do.
