I don't know how it's going to shake out, but if they're playing Funchess this much, it's not because they think he's clearly a top 4 guy.

I'm surprised we didn't see Cobb more, because he's new to the system... but they can do that without preseason games and Rodgers and Cobb probably have their own side things. Funchess is playing this much because they're not sure they're going to keep him, or would like to trade him and keep a STer in that 6th WR spot.

An alternative, or maybe just additional reason they're getting such an extended look at him, is that he hadn't played live football in roughly two years. If I recall correctly he was hurt in the first game in 2019, and then opted out on 2020, so there may be a sense of not really knowing what they have in the guy. So I agree that they're probably not set on keeping him at this point, but if he's healthy and back to his 2017 form, he might surprise us. That's a big if, of course.

Funchess looked darn good Saturday. That one circus catch was a thing of beauty.
If he keeps this up through preseason, they would be fools not to keep him.

I don't think he'll be a high possession guy, but I do see him being someone clutch down the stretch. Of course, this is going off just one game, a game that was against scrubs. He just seems like someone who can get hot easily, but probably can't stay hot. Especially with most balls going towards Adams, Lazard, Valdes-Scantling, Amari Rodgers, Tonyan ...
