We need to put these fine statistical minds to work. Nonstop, for example, asked in the thread I started (see sticky-- "A measuring of the interest") why I had not "assigned" him a "job". I would LOVE to do that, but imo, that is not my place to be force - feeding anyone anything. I HAVE hinted, HEAVILY, that some should VOLUNTEER... We need a capologist, for EXAMPLE...the ENGINEEER, MATTRESELL, and NONSTOPDRIVEL---- You have to VOLUNTEER, though... did I mention there is a sticky about this?

The main issue with anyone volunteering for the Capologist job is that the info is extremely difficult to find. I asked Andrew Brandt if he could point me in the direction of teams' overall cap figures and he said he's still gathering all the info himself, to be released on National Football Post early in the offseason. That's about all we can hope for, but to get info on how much of a cap hit we would take by releasing player X or what Jennings' cap number will be if he reaches certain incentives would be nearly impossible.

Then you are both found guilty and must hang. :thumbleft: I have the stats to this point, and the volunteer would be compiling them in an acceptable format for all to be able use and discuss. An excel spreadsheet expert is needed, imo. Where we are in the cap is an awesome vehicle for discussion and holds ramifications in everything we do. If nobody will take it, I will, but I think the end-product would be better if someone with a better statistical skill-set than I would accept the challenge.

Edit--

OR, how about this? I post our team's cap info here, and let you guys manipulate it into a more useful format for use by whoever the capologist winds up being? I guarantee one thing, you will have plenty to play with stats-wise!

^^^That sounds like a good plan. Once everyone has the data, they can manipulate and analyze it in any way they please.

It makes me sad that this thread never made it past Christmas Eve. Now that the season is almost over, I think this thread could make for an interesting retrospective.

And so, because I am a stubborn cuss who is convinced a good rushing attack must contribute to team success, I decided to check the correlation between rushing yards and winning percentage. My jaw literally dropped when I saw the correlation: a paltry 0.501!

In other words, there is virtually no substantive relation between a good running game and a winning record this season! Maybe all the experts who blather on endlessly how "good teams commit to the run" are flat-out wrong.

Well, duh. I could have told you that. :cyclopsani:

I have had statistic after statistic proving that there is no correlation between a good running team and winning. None. Zero. Nada. (How do you say no in German, nein?)

To my great surprise, it turns out that the correlation between rushing touchdowns and rushing yards is not at all compelling. While a correlation of 0.614 indicates some slight relationship, my analytical chemistry professor would give me an F if I tried to calculate an unknown concentration using such an abysmal correlation coefficient!

For psychologists that would be one badass correlation.
