James Starks would be the guy. If ever there was a back that passes the eye test, it’s Starks. So far in this camp, he has looked explosive, especially in the passing game. He looks more comfortable catching the ball. I have a feeling that might be his niche on this team. Let me tell you, when he gets his hips turned upfield, he’ll make a defensive back’s heart beat faster. The air moves when he runs in the open field. Don’t quit on this guy. He has rare physical ability.

I don't think anyone has ever challenged Starks talent. I think we all challenge him to play a full 16 games.

He is sure to be crippled by an ingrown toenail or some other serious injury unfortunately.
When he is not plagued by injury Starks truly does look like the real deal.
But I have given up on him.

Personally, I don't like his upright style of running the ball as it exposes him to more punishment; and based on the first couple years in the NFL and his college career, staying on the field is an issue. So his running style doesn't lend him an advantage to stay healthy.

I haven't given up on him, if he can help the club, awesome. But consuming a roster spot and having to be shelved yearly for a couple games, does his couple games of contributions really help the club in totality is the question.

To date.. not sold that the cost outweighs the potential to assist, this season with more talent being added to the running backs, his inability to stay healthy yet consuming a roster spot is only going to become more of a tax.

Like Neal, this is a put up or see ya preseason for Starks. We shall see how it shakes out.

It is great to have so many RB who can carry the rock. IF they are healthy. And if they are I would not be surprised if one of them lands on another team.

Starks has had a little bad luck when it comes to injuries. Maybe if he only gets 5-8 carries a game he will be able to play all 19 games this year.

Yeah, it really hasn't hurt the Packers to keep him through his many injuries - except for not having him on the field. As was said, limited touches as a third down back or whatever might keep him healthy. If not, just enjoy him while he lasts, and IR him when he breaks. The great benefit of having Lacy, Franklin, a healthy Green, etc. is Starks (or whoever) can get hurt, and it's not such a big deal because we've got so many.

I don't think the Packers even had faith (or still have faith) in Starks since they went and drafted two runningbacks that can be potential starters. I like that Starks is doing well and if the Packers are going to keep 4 RBs on the roster, this might be his lucky year with DuJuan Harris' recovery.

I'm not much of a "# of players at this position" person but wouldn't it be ridiculous to keep 5 RBs this season, including 1 FB? They have a total of 6 right now...

Not being an NFL player, coach or scout I don't have any insight on the issue but I think players avoid running low so they can seemingly have more speed. They will look as fast as or faster than others who run low and thus get a little bit of an advantage by doing so. It may work in OTAs or training camp where they won't take hard hits but it doesn't work so well in a real game.
