McCarthy: Tauscher has torn ACL
Coach Mike McCarthy is scheduled to address the media shortly. We'll have the injury updates and other newsy stuff here as it comes.
* Injuries: LB Brandon Chillar (groin strain, test Wednesday), RT Mark Tauscher (out for season, ligament tear in left knee, will try to do some rehab and hopefully operate next week), DE Jeremy Thompson (ankle/knee sprain, will test next week), S Nick Collins (contusion, questionable for Wednesday's practice but should play), FB Korey Hall (knee sprain, will be challenged to play this week), TE Tory Humphrey (calf/thumb contusion, probably fine), LB Danny Lansanah (upper arm contusion, likely ready to go this week).
* On Taucher: Will be placed on IR sometime this week. "It's an ACL tear." Focus is on getting swelling out and hopefully, operate by next week. It's the same knee Tauscher hurt in 2002. Dr. Pat McKenzie will perform operation.
* On Tony Moll: Couple of technical errors, but was solid. No adjustments in game plan. Graded out OK.
* On the holding penalty against Moll: Did exactly what he's taught to do.
* On what went awry against Houston: Starts with running game. Missed some gaps against run. Pass rush didn't factor. Pass defense put in tough situations. Third-down situations as a whole were costly. Explosive gains and third downs for Houston for two biggest factors.
* Overestimate this defensive scheme/players: "The scheme and the players, that all has to fit together." Putting pressure on QB and stopping run are two key factors. "We haven't been able to that consistently ... the last three weeks." Defenders are doing much better job of creating turnovers. Had a couple opportunities get away against Texans. All fundamental things that can be fixed.
* Faith in Bob Sanders: "From a personal side of it, he's a tremendous human being. It's very important to him. ... He has a system and a scheme and he's doing the best job that he can. ... I have confidence in Bob and will continue as we move forward."
* On leaving Hawk in middle and putting Bishop outside: Wanted to keep some things the same.
* A danger in having young guys hang heads? "Hang your head, that's something that I think our whole football team won't really take part in. We need to win a football game." Everyone's disappointed, frustrated, "but we know the only people that can fix it is us."
