McCarthy: Tauscher has torn ACL
Coach Mike McCarthy is scheduled to address the media shortly. We'll have the injury updates and other newsy stuff here as it comes.

* Injuries: LB Brandon Chillar (groin strain, test Wednesday), RT Mark Tauscher (out for season, ligament tear in left knee, will try to do some rehab and hopefully operate next week), DE Jeremy Thompson (ankle/knee sprain, will test next week), S Nick Collins (contusion, questionable for Wednesday's practice but should play), FB Korey Hall (knee sprain, will be challenged to play this week), TE Tory Humphrey (calf/thumb contusion, probably fine), LB Danny Lansanah (upper arm contusion, likely ready to go this week).

* On Taucher: Will be placed on IR sometime this week. "It's an ACL tear." Focus is on getting swelling out and hopefully, operate by next week. It's the same knee Tauscher hurt in 2002. Dr. Pat McKenzie will perform operation.

* On Tony Moll: Couple of technical errors, but was solid. No adjustments in game plan. Graded out OK.

* On the holding penalty against Moll: Did exactly what he's taught to do.

* On what went awry against Houston: Starts with running game. Missed some gaps against run. Pass rush didn't factor. Pass defense put in tough situations. Third-down situations as a whole were costly. Explosive gains and third downs for Houston for two biggest factors.

* Overestimate this defensive scheme/players: "The scheme and the players, that all has to fit together." Putting pressure on QB and stopping run are two key factors. "We haven't been able to that consistently ... the last three weeks." Defenders are doing much better job of creating turnovers. Had a couple opportunities get away against Texans. All fundamental things that can be fixed.

* Faith in Bob Sanders: "From a personal side of it, he's a tremendous human being. It's very important to him. ... He has a system and a scheme and he's doing the best job that he can. ... I have confidence in Bob and will continue as we move forward."

* On leaving Hawk in middle and putting Bishop outside: Wanted to keep some things the same.

* A danger in having young guys hang heads? "Hang your head, that's something that I think our whole football team won't really take part in. We need to win a football game." Everyone's disappointed, frustrated, "but we know the only people that can fix it is us."

Regarding the defensive players / scheme: "all fundamentals that can be fixed".
Hearing that makes me want to puke.
This is the same crap week in and week out for 14 weeks now and still nothing gets "fixed", if anything the problems have gotten worse.

When you start talking like that about a guy it usually doesn't bode well.

I had that in a round about way typed.. but I deleted it.. but agreed.

That very well might be the nail in the ole coffin.

Sucks for Tauscher. He probably missed out on his last opportunity to get a good contract. A real shame because, until recently, he had always been a great player for the Pack.

most def. anytime you hear the "hes a good person" line... its almost immediately followed with negatives.

like this girl i want you to meet is a really good person. She has no teeth, 8 kids, a bit of a weight problem and she is missing an eye. But this is important to her and shes a good person.

it sucks because by all accounts Sanders is a good person that everyone likes... but its football and we gotta get better. maybe he can just take a downgrade to his old position coach spot.

Tauscher has given a lot to the Packers. I'm guessing he's probably done though, but who knows as I don't think anyone is going to sign him with a torn ACL. He might come back here cheap even though I don't think that's the move to make right now.

I think people are underestimating Tauscher's play this year.. has he fallen off.. yes, but dependent on his contract demands.. he is worth resigning.. Cliffy on the other hand looks done.. he plays fairly well on grass where it slows the DE down a little. but on turf.. he simply can't keep up anymore.. that Sapp hit shortened a good deal off his career.

If Tauscher took better care of his body.. he might have a few more high years in him.. but he isn't terrible either like some make it out to be.

Instead of being in the upper half of the starting tackles.. he is now in the middle of that group.... Look to the west a little bit.. Cook is near the bottom.. and Tauscher is light years better at this point.

beast (18m) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (18m) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (10h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (10h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (12h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (13h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (13h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (14h) : Thank you
wpr (14h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (14h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (14h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (14h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (14h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (15h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (15h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (15h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (15h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (15h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
