Lambeau went to the Chicago Cardinals after losing an internal power struggle. I read about this once, but I can't remember any more details other than it wasn't a particularly amicable parting of the ways.

I had never thought of the parallel before but it might be worth exploring.

After all, who in the overall scheme of Packer things is more iconic than the guy who the best stadium in the history of sport is named after?

However, Lambeau's decision to purchase the Rockwood Lodge north of Green Bay at a price of $25,000 to make it the Packers' training facility didn't go over well with members of the executive committee and contributed to an internal power struggle that helped end his 31-year tenure with the team.

As you can see, his record was worsening quite badly, as well, though, starting with the retirement of Don Hutson, it seems.

Anyway, the Chicago/St. Louis/Arizona Cardinals aren't the Vikings, though. Even at that point we had a more serious rivalry going on with the Decatur/Chicago Staleys/Bears.

Times have changed and these things move in a way higher speed than they did back then. Regardless of how long it took for Lambeau to get honored, Favre will get there in a couple of years.

Although he might have to wait 'till he's passed away to get a facility named after him.

I am fine with waiting as long with Favre.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

Too bad it took 10 years and 5 other HC before they landed Vince. Of course other franchises had longer dry spells between great coaches and championship teams.

I think some are believing the Chicago Cardinals are the Chicago Bears now, but it's the Arizona Cardinals. And those Cardinals were actually rivals of the Bears.

And at most, one had a daily newspaper reporting on what was happening, not the 24/7/365 coverage we have today. My guess is that in Green Bay, the rivalry may have been as powerful, but in the parts of Wisconsin that didn't get a Green Bay newspaper, it just wasn't that big of a deal.

The Packers didn't really have a fierce rivalry with the Chicago Cardinals. They did play quite a bit if I recall accurately of what I read, but it wasn't a ... spit on the guy you just tackled rivalry that the Packers Bears grew to be.

dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury
dfosterf (13-Aug) : Doubs says he's "fine" after injury scare. Some reported it as z
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
