Pick your poison:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/06/15/obama-administration-to-offer-immunity-to-younger-immigrants/

Summary: The Obama Administration will stop deporting and issue work permits younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have never committed a crime.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said the change is needed to ensure enforcement resources are not expended on “low-priority cases” and are instead focused on people who “meet enforcement priorities.”

Personal Thoughts:
‎1. "Amnesty" to children of illegal immigrants: An idea not without its flaws but in my opinion, the best decision out of the available options (Including doing nothing)
2. Kind of scary that we live in a country where the government can knowingly assassinate an American citizen without a trial, and the executive branch can decide that they can simply issue directives that ignore current laws on the books. The ends do not justify the means, and everytime we trample over the constitution, it's that much easier the next time.

i guess i want it both ways.
our country was founded by 'illegal immigrants', my grandfather's family had to endure prejudice because they were full blooded Italians aka WOP's (without papers), i could see the hurt in my grandpa's eyes whenever he talked about how others looked down on him based on nothing but his heritage. i guess i think everyone deserves a chance to follow the American dream.

what i don't fully understand is why people want to remain 'illegals'. i understand the tax benefits & such but other than that, why don't they become citizens legally? am i missing something? is it really difficult to become a citizen?

It is very difficult to become a citizen, I guess what gets me is that rather than simply acknowledging that a majority of Americans voted for someone that disagrees with him on the other side of the isle, our president takes it upon himself to just say "Nope, if they don't want to push my immigration reform ideas I'm just going to decree that we stop enforcing the laws on the books". Regardless of if he has good intentions or not, this is a terrible, terrible precedent.

ok so it's very difficult to become a citizen & yet people are screaming about illegal immigrants, how they're taking advantage of our country, our laws, taking our jobs, etc...

doesn't common sense say either make it a bit easier to become a citizen or put our troops side by side lined up on the border?? we can't have it both ways.

It is not that hard to become a citizen, you can take the test and get 25 out of 100 wrong and still pass. The questions are not that hard, they have questions like what ocean is on the east coast of the US or what ocean is on the west coast. What day is Independence day?

The illegals don't want to become citizens because they don't have to pay taxes and they get all the benefits such as welfare and I have seen they have been treated better.

I say make a hunting season down on the southern border, call me racist all you want. But look what happens when an illegal gets busted here, they get food and a comfy cell and a ride home. Now in Mexico if we are in jail we get moldy bread and crappy water and hard to get out.

And as Zero said since when is spanish the national language. I am sure Cali or zombie can attest to this but I have seen schools out there that fly the mexican flag with the american flag. That is bullshit, and all of this mexican american or african american, those assholes can take that and shove it up there as. If they want to remember their heritage take your ass back to your country then. If your in america your an american.

I don't say I am an Irish american.

Obama = next hitler

Some test questions

1. What are the colors of our flag?

2. How many stars are there in our flag?

3. What color are the stars on our flag?

4. What do the stars on the flag mean?

5. How many stripes are there in the flag?

6. What color are the stripes?

7. What do the stripes on the flag mean?

8. How many states are there in the Union?

9. What is the 4th of July?

10. What is the date of Independence Day?

practice test citizenship
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Isn't Obama in favor of the dream act? Whether you think that's the ideal plan or not, that seems to be his position. What he announced today was not the dream act. This hyperpole reaction to anything a President or Governor (for that matter) makes is as damning to the country as anything politicians do. Frankly, politicians are the product of their environment. We create that environment with our reactions. The internet age hasn't helped. I do agree that the Presidential office is more powerful than what the founders intended. However, this isn't an Obama problem. The office he currently holds continues to receive more constitutional authority based on the decisions of courts. This dates well into the 20th century and both parties are guilty of it. You don't like that Obama has this authority? Blame the courts. They just keep giving the President more power.

If the court shoots this down, what are they going to do, deport everyone that took advantage of it? Either way, the President successfully bypasses congress and forces what he wants down America's throats.

The point is that when people decide that they are not bound by the constitution, it causes damage. There's room to whine about the courts, but not really on the subject of this administration and extraconstitutional actions, unless I'm missing something.

Bringing up health care raises an interesting point, though. If the mandate is ruled unconstitutional, the entire bill creates even more chaos. If you're worried about that, then vote straight Republican this November. They promise a complete repeal of the law. However, it'll take 60 votes in the senate to repeal it because somebody (Bernie Sanders?) will filibuster any attempt to repeal. The Republicans will need to pickup 12 seats in the Senate for that to happen. That's a stretch. As a result, President Romney (hypothetically) will have to use his executive powers to gut the rest of the bill. Romney is campaigning on this fact. He’ll be sidestepping congress to bypass much of the law. The very same thing Obama is doing right now because he can’t get congress to pass the dream act. Romney will have that power because the courts gave him it. The same goes for Obama, Bush, and so on. Every President since FDR (many before) has probably overstepped what the founders intended. Saying Obama is an isolated instance is simply not true.

Now that we've had time to digest everything, a significant majority of Americans oppose the individual mandate. When you make sweeping changes like the healthcare bill and this latest issue, if facts come out later or public opinion otherwise swings against the legislation, we're stuck with the consequences. That's not to say that healthcare and health coverage aren't big issues in our country (more for some than others), but I believe government should be more careful when pushing such changes. This is about as not-careful as you can get, bypassing the legislature altogether on an issue americans are very much divided on. The great unifier my ass.
