I think the real beauty of Driver staying with GB is that the man can still play.

Taking all of the other stuff away, his age, his diminishing stat totals, etc., Driver has taken such great care of himself that he remains an asset to this football team. Our roster is very, very deep at WR, so much so, that I would argue that the Packers have never had this much talent at the position ever.

I would think this may cost a TE a roster spot when all is said and done. Driver stays on and finishes his career with Green Bay. Kudos to the Packers for seeing past all the BS, and realizing the talent he still possesses, and the potential success he brings to our team. He still has a year or more of high level play in front of him, and his restructure of his deal should make him affordable to keep on the roster, allowing for a very high calibre backup to remain with this team. This added depth also allows for a windfall should they decide to make a trade as we get closer to the start of the season. Any number of scenarios could present that would make such a thing attractive to the Packers. This is a Win-Win.

From a PR standpoint, it doesn't get better than this. From a pure football standpoint, it is still a pretty good deal for the Packers. Had his skills diminished, then this would be another story altogether. We have not yet seen that, and so I look at this as a pretty good move.

Do we all think this automatically means he makes the team though?

I've heard that question asked of others as well. I would say, yes. Are they really going to go through all of this just to say, "hey, we've got 6 others that we like, and we're going to have to call it. Best of luck to you?" it is possible, but I doubt it. I would think someone else will be moved, hopefully by trade so that we can get something in return.

That damned sentimental Uncle Ted. He must be senile. Who would ever want to keep a player like Donald on this team? :-"

Great news!!!!! PACKER FOR LIFE!!

Some say Ted is gettin' soft, not really, this is a genious move.

How many teams don't take care of their veteran players?

Players take notice of moves like these.

But I will look foward to Donald's every move being debated the next 2 years.

DD don't you dare drop a pass at the OTA's, or worse yet in pre-season!!!!

I was addicted to The Hokey Pokey, but I turned myself around!

Ted Thompson isn't changing anything about how he does things. If we pay attention to his strategy from the start, it's quite clear.

Trade back early to acquire more picks. Why, to get more shots in the gun to build a roster.
Tread lightly in free agency, because it's the smart decision and the Packers have been known for keeping their own.

This isn't a change in philosophy, its just perceived as such by fans who are opening up to how Ted Thompson does things.

Thank you WPR.

Great news indeed. Hopefully Dakota won't be too butt-hurt that the Packers have an old man on the team. [boxing]

And for the record, my favorite WR stat is TDs. Driver had 6 last year.

$2.5 million seems like a lot for a 4th WR.
