Now the question I have, did Hawk have an off year or is he in a decline? The year before wasn't so bad. He got 3 INTs and a lot more tackles. Last year was pretty bad though. I'd love to see him bounce back.

Yeah, Hawk is FAR from great, but he is serviceable. A team can win with him, but it's more in spite of him than because of him. With a solid pass rush and defensive back field, we can win with him. Obviously it would be better to have an improvement, though.

We had to get more athletic at that position. We are taking huge cues from the Giants especially.

I see Bishop more threatened by someone who can actually cover than Hawk would be.

Not really, even if Hawk is better than Bish in coverage it isn't a significant difference while Bish is much better at tackling and making plays than Hawk is.

I would love for both Bishop and Hawk to feel some serious pressure on their starting job. Neither was at where I'd want a starting ILB to be.

I could see Manning taking over in the nickel or dime defense. Obviously he would give us more athleticism than Hawk. It really has become embarrassing watching Hawk covering downfield against an accurate quarterback. Hawk has not lived up to expectations.

I guess we will watch it unfold. Manning and Smith can at the very least provide excellent competition for playing time and hopefully light a fire under our starters.

In this defense, the backer rely ALOT on the DL eating up blockers. So yeah, they had an off year.

That said, we need SOMEONE at the position who can cover.
