Ted Thompson was asked how Nick Perry feels about switching to OLB and when Ted called him to let him know he was the pick, he was fired up about the transition.

I think over time Perry will develop into our more exclusive pass rusher with CM3 becoming more of a rover guy. Is Clay going to rush, drop back, spy, man coverage? He's great at both coverage AND rushing, so it's a great bet. Someone like Dom could be really creative with him.

As for covering tight ends, that responsibility is going to fall more on the MLBs and safeties. We could obviously use improvement there but it's rhetorical that pass rush improves the entire defense more than another cover guy would. Even elite CBs are not going to be able to cover guys like Graham and Gronkoski for more than a few seconds (if at all with that catch radius). The best way to contain those guys is to get people in the QBs face. Our first two picks go a long way to address that. Along with additional rookies, free agent signings, and improvement within, I expect the pass rush to be a lot better this season making our coverage a lot better. Should be a great day three of the draft! I'm hoping for Center/S/RB with the two 4ths (perhaps a value DL as well).

I think Perry is going to have a stellar season and career in GB - maybe double digit sacks. Imagine the help all of our opponents are going to have to keep in to protect. This is going to be a VERY different season for GB - and especially for our opponents. I'm loving this front 7, and our players for rotation. I can see 5 players cut from last year's front 7. Major improvements there. I thought Perry would go 15 to SEA, 18 to the Chargers or 19 to the Bears. He could very well be a steal... along with Worthy.

This could be an epic pick, and an epic draft.

Though I can't help worrying about whether we will see the rush getting closer a lot, but still have way too many third downs converted when the opposing QB finds a TE wide open against Hawk/Bishop/Peprah/Burnett.

What's Ted going to say, "Yeah, we talked to him and he hates the idea. But we told him, "Tough shit, you're ours now"?

I've read reports where Nick Perry is happy about the switch as he feels he has a lot of untapped potential and he thinks being OLB will tap said talent. And then I read his quote about being switched to OLB saying something like, its here, can't change it. Almost like he's being forced to do it against his will.

I think it would be in his best interest to shed pounds down to 260.

I blame this feeling I have about Nick Perry on Aaron Kampman-experience. Kampman was a pro's pro (even though I hate that phrase). I think he tried his best to make it work and it just didn't work for him. He was too rigid in the hips to start from standing.

I too doubt that Perry is really enthused about the change but at least he is in the NFL and getting a pay check. After his rookie contract expires we shall see if he blots for a team that will let him play DE in a 4-3 or not.
