Except you still have not addressed the issue that no one was interested in paying the man when he was on the open market, so why would anyone want to trade for him?

Play2Win,I love stats and all to prove points but, as I have been proven wrong times before on it I will say this about Jones stats to the the guys you compared him to.I simply ask you one simple question, What kinds of running games and Qbs did these wrs have? You do realize we pretty much threw on every single play compared to these other teams, of course stats are going to be blown up. I personally don't think Jones is all that great or he wouldn't be the 4th wr on this team. I can almost guarantee he will be behind Jennings,Nelson and Cobb this year.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

To what point nonstop?

At the time you reference, he was coming off a season with some pretty big drops.

Now, he's coming off a season where he had very few. Totally different.

Yes, Jones was exciting last year. But opposing evaluators will also take into account that he was lining up against the #3 or #4 CB. Jennings and Nelson were drawing the #1 and #2. He was also getting single coverage.

Our pass happy numbers also help Jones' numbers look better. Jones' position would be equivalent to Donte Stallworth in 2007 - easy pickens as everyone was concerned about Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Look at how Stallworth dropped off after he wasn't on that team. Will Jones be similar? I don't know. Neither do opposing evaluators.

I still think the best argument in this thread about Jones is that Jones as a #3 is more valuable to us than being a #1 or #2 for any other team. Jones is a Packer in 2012. Guaranteed.

Cullen Jenkins chose to leave.
Matt Flynn, there was no intelligent way to retain him and if you second guess that do some salary cap research.
You don't trade your strength making it a weakness to help another position. What if the DE acquired gets injured? then you're short on WR and DE. Unwarranted risk.

Ted Thompson is a General Manager, not God.

It is tough for us to see the plan because well that's by design. There's a lot more to acquiring players and simply saying hey you sign with us! They have to want to and they have to fit into the scheme and all that jazz.

Ted Thompson doesn't mortgage the Packers future and that's his biggest asset to the Packers franchise.

You guys are all right. James Jones isn't worth anything more than an 7th rounder... I don't know what I was thinking.

We don't have a dearth of talent at WR with Jennings, Nelson, Driver, Cobb, Jones, Gurley, and Borel. We couldn't trade one of those guys. Who the hell could possibly want one of them? Let's just cut two of them when rosters go to 53 in September. I've been around. Stats do lie... and I hate using them. I really do. I shouldn't have. My bad.

We are not poised to do anything, but sit where we are and pick our 12 players, sign a bunch of undrafted FAs, and cut half of them in September, like we always do. That's what makes us champions, every year. Its a formula that works. And, I almost forgot, our chaff is what keeps this league competitive. Keeps us on our toes. With any luck, we can add an undrafted rookie FA WR, and we can go 8 wide, and still retain our title as the youngest team in the NFL! The league won't know what hit 'em. They will all be forced to play catch-up! Again.

Everyone here likes you. We just think you overrate Jones. Hey, I personally think he's a solid deep threat he's a tough guy. My beef with him is he'll get distracted and drop easy balls.

He has the talent to be a #1 WR. He really does. But his track record shows inconsistencies.

The other thing, you can NEVER have too many WRs. I don't want to lose Jones because what happens if Gregorious (our endearing name for our beloved Greg Jennings) or Jordy gets injured? Then what? Suddenly, depth is an issue.

2005 taught us just how important having a good #3 and a good #4 WR is. Our #1, #3, and #4 WR went down and suddenly, we were a really bad joke.

So let's keep Jones. And of course Gregorious, Jordy, and Cobb. Driver is year to year. Uncle Ted will draft yet another WR this year. Guaranteed.

He can. He just won't.

^ The thing about Gurley and Borel, there is another one/two of them available every single year. Either in the 7th round or as a FA. I like them both. They have potential but most likely they are not ready to take significant snaps in 2012.
IF GB loses both of them at cut down time. Uncle Teddy will have another just like them waiting for the chance to sit on the PS and dream of getting the big break to move up to the big time.

I advocated for DD to remain on the team last year. This year it wouldn't break my heart of he retired and one of those two or a rookie took his place on the team.

And for the record, don't pout it is not a very good way to endure yourself to the rest of the members. Which if I recall, did not say he was only worth a 7th. They said he was not worth a 2nd. I think a few said he was worth a 4th. They also said he was worth more to GB than he would be to other teams so why trade him for a 4th.

Hey wpr & zombie, just making light of the situation. No worries. No pouting. I stand behind my ideas. And if I make a mistake, I'll always admit it and try to make it right - like my great Reed idea in the Collins thread. Holy crap! That was bad...

Thinking Gurley is ready to advance onto the 53 man roster. Management may have already made a decision on this, or they wouldn't have tried so hard to keep him. I would rather try to get something for Jones, and keep a restructured DD around. To me, that seems like a no brainer, but will probably go the other way, with DD's release.
