Look at all the teams in dire need of help at WR:

IND
CLE
JAX
KC
STL
MIA
CIN
BUF
SEA
AZ
TEN

That's eleven teams. WR is not a deep position at the top of this draft, where many of these teams reside. We have a wealth of talent at WR with Jennings, Nelson, Jones, Driver, Cobb, and Gurley & Borel ready to advance. My guess is Jones gets traded, having signed a very, very cap friendly deal last year, which makes him doubly attractive in trade. We restructure DD's contract and move Gurley up onto the roster.

Would Jones along with a TE (Taylor, Williams or Crabtree), a 3rd this year and a 3rd next year be enough to get up into top 12?

Seven of those top 12 are in serious rebuild mode. Miami sure could use an instant infusion of talent on O - especially talent familiar with Philbin's system. I think we would be wise to try to get another 1st round pick this year, and draft 2 DEs and an OLB on Day 1. I certainly wouldn't mind drafting another starting calibre NT to give Raji a break.

Tons of other picks we have to trade with Day 2 as well. This could be fun.

Taylor, Williams and Crabtree hold litte to no trade value. Certainly not enough to pair one of them up with Jones and a 3rd for a top 12 pick.

Jones might be worth a 3rd, but I don't think you're going to get that. He's worth more to us as a player than we could get for him in a trade.

I'd rather have cut Driver and move Gurley up that way. Or whichever UDFA WR would be poised to make the roster.

That said, we do have the opportunity to move up. We're not a team with a whole lot of glaring needs. Especially after signing a couple of DE/DTs. We could jump up a bit to get a premier pass rusher at OLB like Upshaw or Mercilus if one of them happens to fall. Maybe move up a couple of spots for CB Gilmore if they do feel as strongly for him as I reckon they might. We have enough picks to trade some away.

That said, I don't see it happening. We're in a pretty good spot to have something good fall our way. With S Barron, C Konz, CB Gilmore, DE/OLB Perry, DE/DT Still and RB Wilson all figuring to be drafted around our pick, we're in pretty good position to just let the draft roll by and take whoever's available.

Is it being reported somewhere that we're poised to move up?

Hey Rockmolder,

I was thinking two 3rd round picks (2012 & 2013) plus the players. Might get us close. Seems Jones' experience, youth, and cap friendly contract would give him a higher trade value. Many of these rebuilding teams need experienced players, along with additional picks. We are in a position to offer both. We certainly don't need 12. I'd be happy with us adding 7 or 8 draftees to our roster.

We have ammo to move - both players and picks that we can shift around to make a very attractive trade. I would consider adding any and all of our 4-7th rounders to sweeten the pot for a top 10 deal, (our 4, 5, 6 and 7 add up in draft value to a high 4th round pick btw).

I would love for us to add a top DE, NT and OLB day one, in any order.

Not saying it will happen either. Just an observation... that we have what 7 of the top 12 teams in draft order need. WR. TE. Picks.

Please reconcile your notion of Jones having any trade value with the fact that he had almost no value on the free-agent market and had to come slinking back to the Packers with his tail between his legs. I don't think this idea jives with reality any more than the notion that the Packers were going to tag-and-trade Flynn ever did.

The only decent trade bait I see the Packers having is AJ Hawk and even then, I don't see that happening. James Jones is not good enough (even paired with the other names and draft picks) to get us top spot.
