It's possible he'll get better with more help on the other side but that argument is not a good one. It's like saying Caleb Hanie might be a great quarterback. I mean, did he ever have Jennings, Nelson, Finley, Jones and Driver to throw to?

If the money is not too big I think he will be a good addition to our team, but if they end up paying 6 mill a year or so, then I would be angry at Ted for not pursuing Wimbley harder, much rather give the extra pocket money for the pass rush he would bring, I was surprised he didnt get more money in the open market.

Well if he has at least an average pass rush/run stop/pass coverage that's three different aspects that get upgraded from Walden.

I like this. While dipping into free agency isn't much of TT's thing, this works and helps the Packers. The defense automatically get better at OLB with this over Mo, Larry and Curly. Signing a vet OLB also allows to possibly look in a different direction during the draft? With a Lawson signing, would Ted Thompson really look to draft another OLB high up in the draft or target another position like DL or C early and get an OLB in the mid-rounds?

1. Methinks the Latins would have had problem with adding "rulership" to their definition. Ave Caesar and all that. So etymology may be distorting things here.
2. Perhaps "aspire to actual rulership" would be more precise....I'm hard pressed to think of successful triumvirates.
2b. Hmm. I wonder if that's part of what Madison was thinking when he devised the three way "separation of powers" idea.

On the other hand, "trio" brings to mind "making good music together" -- which might mean jazz or, for some of us, polygamy, but certainly doesn't fit the original context either.

I thought the Vikings had trademarked that phrase with the "triangle of authority" that lead to nothing more the mediocrity. Leave it up to the Scandinavians to try and sell such a concept. ;)


Now.. On Lawson, to me he is a hopped up Jones on the edge.. little in terms of pass rush but plays the run well. Yes it would be an upgrade, but how much verse what the cost of obtaining his services is the question.

Walden is the better pass rusher out of the Zombo, Walden Jones grouping.. but he can't play the run very well at all, he is undisciplined and gets sucked inside way to often. Zombo is an effort guy that really doesn't exceed at anything.. and Jones can't seem to develop the pass rushing skills to get separation whatsoever. All three don't possess a strength in coverage.. here is where the upgrade can be felt.

But the wildcard here really is So'oto.. can he develop in a player that can help this club come Sunday?

I would not mind the Lawson signing in the least bit as we still need to upgrade the entire rotation on the edges.. just a bit leery of the costs that come along with it verses production upgrade received.

BTW.. I have not lost complete faith in Jones.. a healthy offseason of work may just reap benefits come fall.. he has the tools IMO.
