The reasons I thought Broncos were the best spot for him when it was evident Peyton Manning was going to be cut were ... Broncos have a good OL, good running game, two decent WR on the edge and a defense that kept a Tim Tebow led offense within winning range of points. Aside from the Chargers, that division is fairly easy to win. And the Chargers aren't much to worry about anymore, I don't think.

It was also said very early on that Peyton really preferred AFC vs NFC.

The Broncos team just makes the most sense.

I'd say the Broncos will have a better record than the 49ers this season, but since Peyton just signed with the Broncos, that's probably a given, lol.

With the new contract in place, Manning plans to retire in Denver. The Broncos, meanwhile, have some protection in the way the contract was formulated. There's no signing bonus. Manning will get $18 million guaranteed for next season, but must pass a physical before each season, starting in 2013, to get paid.

A source told ESPN business analyst Andrew Brandt that Manning will be paid $20 million in both the 2013 and '14 seasons if he passes a team physical to be given 10 days before the start of the 2013 league year. There is an injury waiver included in the contract, however, covering Manning's surgically repaired neck. If he reinjures the neck during the 2013 season, the Broncos will not have to pay his 2014 salary.

He is scheduled to make $19 million in both '15 and '16.

"I don't consider it much of a risk, knowing Peyton Manning," Elway said. "I asked him, 'Is there any doubt in your mind that you can't get back to the Peyton Manning we know of?' And he said, 'There's no doubt in my mind.' "

That sure seems like a tremendous amount of money to pay, even with the injury waiver, for a guy who couldn't even step foot on the field last year.

"People want to know the reason,'' Manning said, searching for one, almost grimacing trying to explain himself. "There really isn't one. I could have pictured myself on any of those other teams. But what it came down to is, this just fit. It felt right."

Peyton Manning wrote:

Thank you Peyton, that's what I saw too. It just 'fit'. :)

It is amazing how well things can fit when there is $96 million on the table.

Edit, oh yeah, btw check this out.

He made the decision without regard to money, because wherever he went, the money was going to be there. At one point on his tour of teams in Denver and Arizona, Manning said he didn't talk to his long-time agent and confidant, Tom Condon, for four days. That's because he didn't want to confuse football with business. It was clear whichever team he chose was going to pay him something like what Denver ended up paying him ($18 million in year one, and then an average of $18 million a year after taking an offseason physical to activate the next year of his contract).
