What is also key to look at is the 49ers play a similar style D with a 3-4 system. A big change for them was drafting alonso smith for the ROLB position. He gave them 14 sacks.

A bit of a one-year wonder, though, but many said the same thing about Clay Matthews. I throw this out there because I’ve started my draft study (if that's what you want to call it) and Mercilus is whom I slotted to Green Bay with their pick. I think it's important to note that the Packers need an OLB capable of playing the run as much as they need one capable of rushing the passer.

I don't mind Raji's sack numbers going down. I do mind that he seemed to get virtually no push up the middle and was handled by a single blocker far too often, both on running and passing plays.

Add to that the lack of pressure from the other defensive linemen (and linebackers), which allowed Raji to get double-teamed more than often making matters worse for him. Personally, I'd like to get another NT and bump Raji to the defensive end position.

I know we are on the subject of ROLB, but I think RDE plays a role in this position as well and how affective the next player will be. Does anyone think they just give Mike Neal another chance and don't focus on that position (RDE)?

I'd like to be able to get back to doing the psycho and base package too. If we could find a way to get 3 down lineman that can get a little bit of pressure. As it stands Pickett eats up a few blockers on pass rushes and does a good job at rush defense but doesn't have the speed to get to the QB.
