Round 1 and 2 of the draft (or all in round 1 if Ted Thompson makes some trade ups) needs to be a 34DE and OLB pick. Personally, I have given up all hope on Mike Neal and already categorize him with Justin Harrell. After reading that one article in which they make a reference to Mike Neal and playing OLB made me realize that they are in desperate need of an OLB opposite of Clay and have also given up all hope for him at the DE position. In order for this side of the defense to work, both of those position need to be addressed.

Alameda Ta'amu is also a decent choice, bumping Raji out to that end position. At Draft Tek  (where I usually browse for positional rankings and mock draft info) Ta'amu is projected for early 3rd so taking him late 2nd wouldn't be a bad choice. That is a big body. The site has him ranked as the 10th best 34DT compared to the 7th best 43DT so not much of a difference.

Jared Crick is the other name that pops up to play as a 34DE. That is a 1st rounder pick though.

Must not have browsed Draft Tek! ;-)

Not to say that site which I just visited for the first time gives any validity to him being a first round talent, but they seem to think so. I still hope we stick to the BPA available mentality. Never know when we could be passing on the next Ngata, Deon, etc., etc. If nothing else, a trade can always be attempted if we accumulate too much talent at one position.

If Ta'amu is there at the bottom of the 2nd, I definitely wouldn't mind that pick.

I really really want Vinny Curry. His stock is rising fast but I think he will be available at #28.

Osi Umenyiora is now a free agent, right?

Edit, he'll be a free agent in 2013. The Giants have him signed for 2012 yet.

Having speed inside should only be on 3rd down plays cause you can gash teams that have DT's and DE's in 3-4 with pure speed and small size.

1st round- Nick Perry (USC-OLB)
2nd round- Jared Crick (Neb- DE)

I just like these two players and if the Packers can land Crick late in the 2nd, I think it would be well worth the pick. I'm going to try to find more stuff on Nick Perry but he seems to be pretty high on a lot of boards (not lasting to the 28th pick).

What is also key to look at is the 49ers play a similar style D with a 3-4 system. A big change for them was drafting alonso smith for the ROLB position. He gave them 14 sacks.

Interesting to note the complaining about Raji who recorded 3 sacks and Sopoaga got 0.0 this season for the 49ers. It's not really the job of the Nose Tackle to get sacks. So to improve the D wont take a lot but we will need to get more balance in the front 7 as far as pass rush goes obviously. A ROLB will make the biggest impact as far as sack total and hurries. Also need to get another DE or 2 that can create a smaller pocket to pass from.

I would look to FA to get some DL depth and the draft for the skill player positions.

beast (15h) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (15h) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (20h) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (20h) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (21h) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (21h) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (21h) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.

Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here

Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing

beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Do the Commanders risk losing a top WR with an emerging QB just because he's turning 30 and potentially risk damaging the rebuild from
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
