Charles Woodson was asked what they needed to improve on...

Personnel.

I think the last game, our entire organization saw the same thing out on the field. There were some things we just weren't able to do, so hopefully we'll bring some guys in to accomplish the same goal we achieved last year.

Woodson's thoughts on the Hail Mary

If you watch that game, my feeling is that they just wanted it more than we did. I think about one play, and I think about that Hail Mary. I go over it in my head and see the clips on ESPN and different sports shows and see the lack of effort from our team to get that ball intercepted or knock it down.

I maintain what I said last week. The last time I felt the Packers were really playing for "something", was the first game against the Giants. It felt like they were in "coast" mode after that.

With Woody, I'm with the 2nd statement. The Giants wanted to win that game. The Packers were like "eh." 7 drops. Letting someone beat you on a Hail Mary. Poor tackling. It's like we weren't wanting to be there.

Same thing in 2007. Except for Donald Driver. He wanted to play both games.

I hope Woodson isn't excluding himself from that statement. He was the only one to actually get a finger on the Hail Mary, and he failed to get the ball out. He was a defensive captain for that game, and he didn't make a tackle or record a stat of any kind.

He also set a bad tone on D early on by falling down in coverage and giving up a first down catch, then not even popping right back up, while the receiver, Cruz, also fell down in the process of the catch, but popped back up immediately. Peprah had to clean up Woodson's mess. How's that for lack of effort? First play on these highlights-

Honestly, Capers also deserves blame. Or maybe it's Perry who does. Or whoever it was that was stupid enough to call out man-coverage in that situation.

Quarters / off-man is what you want. Hell, off-man has become a staple of Capers' play calling most of this year probably in part to the fact that our CB would get beaten repeatedly with our lack of pass-rush if they played press-man. The one time it would have been ideal, we don't have it called / executed.

That the DBs would actually be in man coverage from the get go and not even take into account the off-chance of a Hail Mary is pathetic. You want to make sure DBs keep receivers in front of them, thereby more comfortably making the play on the ball or stopping the receiver from getting huge yardage.

And, of course, that did not happen. Shocking that it did not; I really hope McCarthy / Capers look back and try to figure out how on earth that coverage got used by the players.

My point being: in this case, blame deserves to be on more than just players. Unless the players completely ignored what the coaches called in.

The guys back deep on that play were Peprah and Woodson. Seems like it was their job to prevent the Hail Mary. Peprah was even in position, and basically jumped and hit helmet. Woodson at least made an effort to get there, but didn't get it done.

Wow. Look at the second play on that video. It's stunning how impotent Hawk looks on that play. To say he looks half-assed out there would be giving him credit. This man was a first-round pick?
