Honestly, Capers also deserves blame. Or maybe it's Perry who does. Or whoever it was that was stupid enough to call out man-coverage in that situation.
Quarters / off-man is what you want. Hell, off-man has become a staple of Capers' play calling most of this year probably in part to the fact that our CB would get beaten repeatedly with our lack of pass-rush if they played press-man. The one time it would have been ideal, we don't have it called / executed.
That the DBs would actually be in man coverage from the get go and not even take into account the off-chance of a Hail Mary is pathetic. You want to make sure DBs keep receivers in front of them, thereby more comfortably making the play on the ball or stopping the receiver from getting huge yardage.
And, of course, that did not happen. Shocking that it did not; I really hope McCarthy / Capers look back and try to figure out how on earth that coverage got used by the players.
My point being: in this case, blame deserves to be on more than just players. Unless the players completely ignored what the coaches called in.
