Some might not remember he and Max on the radio.. but through many trying years paired together they made it entertaining.

Started covering the Packer in 1969 and hung up the mic in 1998.

It was Jim Irwin's jubilant descriptions of Reggie white weeping on the sidelines after the Packers' victory against the Panthers in the NFC Championship Game.

I'll never forget the farewell speech he gave in 1999. I wish I could find it on Youtube.

I think Jim Irwin has a worthy successor in Wayne Larrivee, but Mr. Irwin holds a special place in my heart. Larrivee is exciting to listen to -- but he gets just as excited when the opponent makes a play as he does when the Packers make a play. He's just as animated calling a college basketball game as he is calling a Packers game. With Mr. Irwin, you got the feeling he was a Packers fan first, broadcaster second.

Sad to hear of Jim Irwin's passing, my deepest sympathy to his family. He and Max were the best team of announcers the Pack has had IMO and that'a going back to the sixties. I'll always remember his line in the NFC Championship game that went something like " a hole you could drive to the Super Bowl through" when Levins score the clinching TD. I can't stand Lavavee, but that's another subject. Jim and Max you are missed.

Jim and Max were great, but Jim couldn't actually pronounce the word "Packers." He pronounced it more like "Paquers." Like he was clearing his throat for the "k" sound.
