People are still saying we are in trouble because of our 32nd ranked pass D.

I wanted to see just how often a team won or lost when you ranked them by passing D. Then I ranked them by D passer rating.

For kicks to see how relevant the passer rating differential really is. I added that.

Considering that the D passer rating is only a small part of what a team does, it contributes significantly to wins and losses.

The Passer Rating Differential has an astounding correlation to Winning considering that it doesn't include rushing or ST. It is a great way to rank teams.

How can you use numbers compiled throughout 16 games to do a week by week win/loss measurement starting with each teams first game?

I have every weeks ratings in a spread sheet. I just copied the summary.

I can sort by any catagory in the spread sheet. OPR, DPR, PRD, O yards, D yards, Yardage Differential and wins.

This way I can show which category correlates to the wins the most for each week.

That's kind of bogus. You should be recalculating every player on the team who's thrown a pass. Why do stats if you're not going to do them accurately? Do you work for ESPN or something? NFL Network? Sports Illustrated? No? Then be better then them!

okay going back to the playoff game ... weeee doggggggie

Thanks Dexter.

This shows how meaningless yards are. I don't think ANYONE with any credibility left still uses yards as a measurement.

What I'd like to see if you can whip it up Dexter is the PRD ranking of the SB winners. I'd guess that the vast majority of them are in the top 5.

For my next trick,

I am going to figure the D passer rating of all opponents of each team and rank them.

That way I will get a strength of schedule based on this years opponents rating.

I don't think it's an astounding correlation, more like a DUH correlation. Hey, an even more astounding correlation: the team that scores more wins! Well, DUH...

Duh-ness aside, I think Passer Rating Differential has a few issues:

- doesn't take into consideration the quality of the opposing offense & defense. For example, if you're playing in the AFC North, going up against Pit, Bal, Cle, etc your offensive passer rating is going to be lower just due to the quality of the defenses you're playing. Same holds true for DPR if you were going up against teams like the Packers, Patriots, Colts (with Manning), etc. Playing Denver twice would do wonders for your DPR.

- teams can start the season sucking at passer rating differential (NYG, 2007) but improve in time for the playoffs and sweep through. I think if some kind of weighting were applied where more recent games counted more than earlier games it would provide a more useful comparison.

I think a more useful stat would weight more recent games more than earlier games and look at how well your defense held the opposing QB compared to his average performance, and how well your QB did against the opposing defense compared to their average performance. For example, throwing 300 yds against Pittsburgh would be among the elite games against the Steelers (defense gave up 172 yds ave per game) while only an average performance against, say, the Packers (defense gave up 300 yds ave per game).

Zero2Cool (37m) : NFL thought it would get more attention week preceding Super Bowl.
Zero2Cool (38m) : Yes, the Pro Bowl. It was played Sunday before Super Bowl from 2010-2022
packerfanoutwest (38m) : pro bowl
Zero2Cool (42m) : From 2010 to 2022, it was played on the Sunday before the Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (42m) : They moved it to the BYE week before Super Bowl several years ago.
packerfanoutwest (48m) : it was always after the SB.....
beast (10h) : Though I stop following pro bowl years ago
beast (10h) : I thought the pro game was before the Super Bowl?
packerfanoutwest (10h) : ok now for the Pro Bowl Game in Hawaii
TheKanataThrilla (11h) : If I was Philly I would try to end it instead of punting it
Mucky Tundra (11h) : VICTORY! We have (moral) victory!
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : Hey they mentioned that we 3-peted
Mucky Tundra (12h) : seems to me the 49ers should have traded Aiyuk when they had the chance
Mucky Tundra (12h) : if the Eagles get it down to the 1, do they Tush Push or give it to Barkley?
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : 49ers have a money problem if they want to sign their QB
Mucky Tundra (12h) : Wait for real? Didn't he just get an extension two years ago?
Zero2Cool (12h) : 49ers gonna trade Deebo. Interesting
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : Replays always never seem to show the holdings
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : Great throw by Hurts
Mucky Tundra (12h) : Where Carter falls prey to bad off the field influences (to be clear, not saying he'd clip someone though)
Mucky Tundra (12h) : Had Carter not gone to Philly were they already had a lot of old college friends, he ends up in a similar spot to Aaron Hernandez
Mucky Tundra (12h) : I think some of his coaches told scouts to stay away
Mucky Tundra (12h) : the street racing incident+conditioning and motivation problems
beast (12h) : Then Carter was street racing, where the other car crashed and people died... and other teams were scared to pick Carter for some reason
beast (12h) : I think the Saints traded up, giving their next year 1st to the Eagles, and then they sucked and Eagles got the 10th overall pick
packerfanoutwest (13h) : wtf Barkley?
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : Getting Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round in 2023 was pretty darn good
Mucky Tundra (13h) : for some reason i'm thinking of a draft where the Eagles where in the mid 20s and a top player fell all the way to them
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : I think so. I would need to look it up. Think it may have been Carolina's pick.
Mucky Tundra (13h) : i'm not sure who i'm thinking of now
Mucky Tundra (13h) : oh fuck me i messed that up
Zero2Cool (13h) : Jordan Davis was 13th overall
Zero2Cool (13h) : Carter was 9th overall
Zero2Cool (13h) : Eagles had 15th and 10th selections, moved to 13 and 9 to get Davis and Carter back to back
Zero2Cool (13h) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (13h) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (13h) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (13h) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
Mucky Tundra (13h) : And with a Pass Rush that might as well be on a milk cartoon and no Jaire
Martha Careful (13h) : I cant help but feel good about how well the Packers D played in Philly during the playoffs
Mucky Tundra (13h) : this game is over
Mucky Tundra (13h) : This might be the kill shot here
Mucky Tundra (14h) : oh that's such a bad penalty for KC after getting the 3rd down stop
TheKanataThrilla (14h) : Philly DL has come to play
TheKanataThrilla (14h) : Ceoper DeJean with the INT scored...bad memories of draft night
Mucky Tundra (14h) : ok scratch that
Mucky Tundra (14h) : Game feels like last years Super Bowl: 49ers started off in control, moved the ball well but didn't have much of a lead to show for it
