So I had a pair of Niner fans over last night for dinner. We discussed the Packers, the Niners, and especially the Lions game.

They're scared, as they should be. We just beat a 10-6 Playoff team with our backup QB, our primary WR out, and our top 2 people on D resting.

How many other teams in the NFL could beat a Playoff team with their backup QB, their primary WR out, and their top 2 people on D resting?

Overconfidence is a dangerous thing.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I miss the Packer swagger. I've been walking around belting my dumbass Viking, Cowboy, Steelers and Bear buddies all season. It rocked.

Whomever the Packers play in the Divisonal round, they already beat them during the regular season.
Falcons, beat.
Lions, beat x2.
Giants, beat.

Only team in the NFC playoffs the Packers haven't beat is the 49ers, because, they haven't played them, yet!

I don't know if it is a rule. But I do know it is the official interpretation of the possession rule.

It is also the official interpretation of the going to the ground in the process of making a catch. They have done it many times. Catch, 2 feet in and even if you make a football move, like a step or taking a knee as in Finley's case. If you end up hitting the ground, even after 2 steps out of bounds, the ground can still cause an incompletion.

In both the Johnson catch and the one that was a pick but got overturned, they didn't follow the guidelines set by precedent.

According to the way they have been calling it, they blew the calls. If the Finly call was right, the Johnson call and the pick were blown. All were replayed. There is absolutely no excuse for a missed call on a replay.

Either the process of a catch ends when possession is established or it doesn't. The League has been saying that it doesn't for a couple years. Why did it change for this game?

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d81aa7bab/Catch-or-no-catch

In this clip, Jackson actually catches the ball, gets both feet down, takes 2 more steps and lands on his backside jarring the ball lose. It is ruled incomplete. How is that different from the Johnson catch where he bobbled the ball after hitting the ground out of bounds. Or that catch that was a pick?

I could come up with lots of examples where the process of making a catch is extended at least 2 steps past possession. Johnson didn't even make 2. The overturned int, the receiver didn't even make 1.

IMO I watched that play and he did not have complete possession until he was out of bounds ... meaning he didnt have full possession and then 2 feet touching the ground; was bobbeling IMO. And that is not a catch ... but was quite close.

The guys over at ProFootballFocus  had some pretty harsh words for the Packers after this game:

Ready to Resume?

So now that Chad Clifton (-3.7) is back we can stop worrying about Marshall Newhouse protecting Aaron Rodger’s blindside? Not so fast. If this sporting vignette was anything to go by then perhaps it’s a case of better the devil you know. In the 25 snaps he played before leaving the game, it was obvious Clifton was off the pace. His first three plays read like a story of increasing embarrassment as he first gave up a hurry, followed by a hit, and then a sack; twice failing to anchor against a bull-rush. It got better, but only relative to this initial disaster, and by the time he’d left 22 snaps later, he’d given up one more hit and a 1-yard tackle to Lawrence Jackson.

Relevant Raji

While the Pro Bowl is now considered a universal symbol of inadequacy, certain selections go beyond poor and border on the surreal. In what world can a player as big as B.J. Raji (-3.5) play so poorly for so long and still make the trip? It’s inconceivable to think of a 350lb man as invisible, but despite playing 79% of all defensive snaps, his play is generally undetectable.

In 885 snaps he’s picked up three sacks, one hit, 16 hurries and 13 tackles. Thirteen. One-three. In almost 200 less snaps Brandon Mebane has 37. Thirteen is the same number as the following NFC interior linemen with their snaps in parentheses; Shaun Rodgers (301), Trevor Laws (315), Dan Williams (244), Matt Toeaina (401), Letroy Guion (508).

No doubt we’ll have some comments below about how ā€œhe was always double-teamedā€ or ā€œhe was standing up the center so someone else could make a playā€. I hope not, because that would be rubbish; complete unadulterated nonsense. The truth is he’s been terrible, but no one with a vote watches enough football to either do the right thing or care. If one of the 50 souls with an All-Pro vote sees fit to waste it on him then they should have it confiscated immediately. If you are interested in what he contributed in this game then there is plenty of footage of him leaning on Detroit linemen and absolutely none of him helping his team.

Game Notes

- All the Packers’ defense could manage in 61 drop backs was a paltry two sacks, a hit and five hurries.

- In this game Jordy Nelson put his average yards per pass route ran to 3.05 almost a full half yard ahead of last year’s top performer Brandon Lloyd (2.59)
