My green and gold glasses tell me 12 is the obvious choice for MVP. I am happy for Brees but there was some stat padding going on in New Orleans.

First, Yards are pretty much meaningless.

Of the 17 400+ yard performances by a QB this year ranked by passing yards, 11 were lost. That is a winning percentage of about 35%.

Second, Brees didn't throw beeter, he threw more. If Rodgers and Brees had the same number of attempts, Rodgers would have about 650 more yards than Brees, More TDs (which he already has) and fewer INTs (again, which Aaron already has)

Third, Brees had half as many drops per throw. Rodgers had 8% of his passes dropped while Brees had 4% of his. Rodgers at 72.3% would lead Brees at 71.2% in completion % with an extra 4% completions.

Fourth, Rodgers had more 80+ yard TD passes and more 40+ yard TD passes.

Fifth, Rodgers was under pressure more. With fewer attempts, Rodgers was sacked 36 times to Brees' 24. Rodgers was sacked 7.17% and Brees was sacked 3.65%.

Rodgers was more efficient under more pressure and had more drops and still scored more TDs (if you count rushing).

Sixth, Brees turned the ball over 15 times and Rodgers turned the ball over 6 times.

Seventh, Rodgers called the plays in a game where the QB threw a franchise record breaking 6 TD passes and set a franchise record for yardage in a game.

Drew Brees finished with 46 TD's
Aaron Rodgers finished at 45 TD's

Aaron Rodgers called in plays during the first half. A funny note, Rodgers calling plays, 24 points, McCarthy calling plays 21. Hmm, haha.

Sacks are not pressures. Let's find the stat line that shows how many times each was flushed out of the pocket and then we can speak about being pressured.

Peter King considered splitting his vote between Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees due to Brees' late-season statistical push, but ultimately decided Rodgers was the better quarterback over the whole season and gave him his vote. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

You are right about sacks not being the only pressure. However you can probably guess that if Rodgers is getting sacked twice as much, he is probably getting more pressure.

Regarding if Matt Flynn's performance diminishes the chances of Aaron Rodgers winning the MVP.

I hope they announce the MVP for Drew Brees before the Packers play next. Yes, I like Aaron Rodgers playing with a chip on his shoulder.

A sack is not a pressure, it is a sack for crying out loud! A pressure is flushing the QB out of the pocket. Unless we are changing definitions of common football terms. Which if we are, please cite the source so I can update my ass on the new "lingo".

Pressured - quarterback flushed out of the pocket
Hurried - quarterback threw the ball with defenders in his face
Sacked - quarterback tackled behind line of scrimmage

Does Webster have a dictionary on football terms or do we just make'em up to suit our statistical agenda? 🙂
