Why not utilize them both more.. 1-2 punch, of course that would mean that MM and Co. would have to be more consistent in sticking with the run..k

I say mix them both into the game plan.. then add a true "speed scat" back to the mix this offseason for that guy that gets a couple snaps a game but has the defenses attention... a guy that can create in space and has the speed to burn.

There's no reason why we can't use both. We need to man up and play new era football. The days of an every-down back are gone. All the good teams on the ground have two guys to use.

Tennessee Titans -- LenDale White / Chris Johnson
Atlanta Falcons -- Micheal Turner / Jerious Norwood
Carolina Panthers -- DeAngelo Williams / Jonathan Stewart
New York Jets -- Thomas Jones / Leon Washington
Minnesota Vikings -- Adrian Peterson / Chester Taylor
New York Giants -- Brandon Jacobs / Derrick Ward / Ahmad Bradshaw

Look at San Diego struggling with LaDainian Tomlinson. Look at St. Louis struggling with Steven Jackson. These guys are elite running backs, but they have nobody behind them.

Seriously. Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson have the potential to be just as good.

great idea , +1, yea i would like to see brandon jackson get the start and put grant in on short yardage situations, kindoff like tenesse, start the explosize back, but give the power back the ball on like 3 and 1 and at the goal line

Disagree. What would Ted Look like benching Grant after that contract extension(not that its Ted's choice, but the man deciding it would not do it)? You don't pay Millions of Dollars to just dump a guy. Jackson has signs of brightness, however has not proven consistent.

"Bigbyfan" wrote:

I disagree with your reasoning. First of all, Ted isn't the one that benches players, that is McCarthy's job. Second, you put the player on the field that gives you the best opportunity to win, not the guy who gets paid the most money. Plus, Ted shouldn't care "how he looks" having the guy he paid get benched.

On the topic, I think Brandon Jackson deserves WAY MORE carries because we made our big comeback in the second half when Grant was benched. Yes Aaron Rodgers had a huge half, but Brandon Jackson did his part too..... except on the goal line on the last drive (I knew we shoulda done a QB Sneak on 3rd AND 4th down, but thats a different topic lol)

We are *hella* proud of Bjax here in Husker Nation...way to go Brandon!

dude's got skills. As others have said, expand his role and you got a nice 1-2 punch. I'd give Grant more time - he was a beast down the stretch last year, don't be so quick to tear him down again.

Keep your heads up, Packer fans...get that defense on the same page and you have yourselves a VERY dangerous team. You also have to be happy with your QB situation - not many teams enjoy the comfort the Packers do at the game's most important position.

Anyways - I really can't wait to see some more Jackson in action. Good luck in the last, what is it, 4 games? take some fools down.

You've been a classy poster here! :thumbleft:
Jackson is showing that he DESERVES more time on the field.
Hopefully the coaches see that and give him the extra time. He EARNED it, for sure.

Someone earlier stated that LT is struggling in San Diego. The last few years when he was the best back in the league Michael Turner was behind him. Now that Turner is gone look what is happening.

I agree that a two-back system would work because it gives the offense a fresh look, and we can utilize Jackson's ability to catch out of the backfield more. When the defense has to worry about Jackson that will create more oppurtunities for Grant to bust open a run and to be more effective inside.

It's not that Grant isn't hitting the hole--it's just that he really isn't the player everyone thinks he is.

He's not particularly fast. If he was, he'd have all sorts of touchdowns.
He's not particularly strong. If he was, he'd break more tackles.

He scored more touchdowns and broke more tackles last year. Not sure what the difference is this year, but I'm sure the hamstring injury and missing all of training camp didn't help.

I've also been a little frustrated with McCarthy's one-back-carries-all mentality. I'd prefer to see him spread the carries around and then go with the hot hand, whether that's Grant, Jackson, Wynne.

LT's line is also terrible, so that contributes to his struggles. Plus they are always playing from behind and having to throw the bal, thats why Rivers' stats look good.

I agree with your point however.

I'd love a one-two punch but it won't work when we are constantly trailing and forced to throw.
