Kampman is good......but he's ALL we have. And the teams we play KNOW that.
So all they have to do is stop him, and they know their QB will have all day in the pocket.
Thats what is killing us. Even if our DB's have good coverage, they can't cover the guys forever........which is what they HAVE to do to stop the other team. Which we have seen how good that is working out for us.

Just to highlight the point we're all making, take a look at the season sack numbers.

Overall - 20 sacks (26th in the NFL)

Individual:

Kampman - 10
Jenkins - 2
Woodson - 2
Hawk - 2
Chillar - 1
Montgomery - 1
Pickett - 1

NOTE: Those numbers are from NFL.com and there's a missing sack somewhere that's not being credited to anyone. The point still stands.

Kampman has half of the total sacks. The rest of the D-line has accounted for 4 sacks, 2 of which are on IR. Look no further for your problem.

Want to hear an interesting stat? The 4 games jenkins played in the team has had 9 sacks. And the 8 games after the team has had only 11.

I would actually be an advocate for bringing KGB back. At least he would make a push from the right side and get close. Not sure what shape he is in but that bad knee has had a chance to heal.

We're getting nothing from the right side as it stands now.

I think I'm feeling like kind of a combo of digsthepack and warhawk.

Personnel-wise, we need a good RDE, preferably who can also play on run downs if needed. We need Jenkins back and healthy. We need at least some talented depth at end and tackle so we can rotate.

Coaching-wise, well, I've harped on this before and I'll do so again. We need a big-league coach for our defense -- I don't know who that guy is, but we need someone on the level (or with the potential to be on the level) of the guys they have in New York and Pittsburgh. McCarthy isn't a defensive guy -- he knows offense, and that's about it. We need someone who's at his level ability-wise on the defensive side of the ball. With the personnel moves warhawk lists, you can't tell me we don't have an extremely talented defense, we just need someone who can USE that personnel.

The thread title sums it up -- pass rush is the name of the game these days. We're not too far from having the people to make it happen, we just need a good plan.

Pass Rush.

If it were possible to reply by just leaving a post, or even better, an entire thread blank, well, that would be quite accurate and reflective of the topic in question.

Next we could run defense.

50 replies. no words. that would be perfect.
